For some countries like China, India, Russia, much of Latin America and Africa (even many European countries), 1990 is much closer to 1960 than it is to 2020. It totally depends where you are in. For Japan, the US, and Western Europe, it's closer to today. My country's 90s is definitely closer to my country's 2020s lol We had a freaking dictatorship in the 60s and the human development index of a very poor african country

Also for china 1990 is definitely closer to 2020 considering China's politics and economy were in the gutter back the 60s
