I purchased a new HP Pavilion laptop from Harvey Norman yesterday morning. It has been working great so far and i'm really impressed with its features, but the biggest adjustment for me has been getting used to Windows 10. My older HP Pavilion laptop had Windows 8.1 installed onto it and while they are similar in a number of ways, there's quite a few differences between the two. I don't like how there's a search bar in the taskbar. It's probably just because i'm not used to it, but I find having a huge white rectangle at the bottom-left of the screen distracting. I wish there was a way to get rid of it.
Does anyone else here have a Windows 10 PC? How would compare it with previous Windows operating systems? Do you like Windows 10?

What a coincidence, i've also purchased a HP Pavilion Laptop yesterday...except it's a gaming laptop and I bought it from JB Hi-Fi, to replace my 9 year old MacBook Pro 13". Anyway back on topic, I quite like Windows 10 since I've been using it for almost 3 years on my custom gaming PC.

I can remember seeing the HP Pavilion gaming laptop for sale, but I decided not to go for it as I was after a laptop with bigger RAM and GBs. Plus, JB HI FI unfortunately didn't have as good of a selection of HP Pavilion laptops as the other stores do. They're a good model though, I really liked my older HP Pavilion laptop.

I have never used Windows 10. My main setup is mainly the iOS system. I still have a gaming PC with 8 running on that is used for exclusive titles.

I find having a huge white rectangle at the bottom-left of the screen distracting. You can minimize it. Just right click on the task bar to have that option appear.

On the subject of Windows 10, they've recently released an update with the "Fluent design" that revamps the icons into slowly moving away from the flat design: Looks cool!

I have two Windows 10 PC's (a HP Envy laptop from 2012 which I don't use often since I got my MacBook Air in 2015, and a desktop I custom-built myself in 2015 where I have my VHS recordings stored on). I enjoy using Windows 10 and have only experienced 1 BSOD in my 4 and a half years of using the OS (touch wood!). Hasn't slowed down either so far. My older HP Pavilion laptop had Windows 8.1 installed onto it If you don't mind me asking, why didn't you upgrade to Windows 10 when it was free? I hated Windows 8 so much I upgraded the first few hours after Windows 10 was available to the public

^ I agree. 8 is pretty awful to deal with at times unlike 7 (XP was the best IMO). Probably for the best I only use it to play a few games and not other more “important” tasks. Forgot to mention, I do have Windows 7 still running on my Mac with Boot Camp.

I hated Windows 8 so much I upgraded the first few hours after Windows 10 was available to the public I've always liked Windows 8.1, to be honest. I actually did upgrade to Windows 10 when it was offered for free, however I switched back to Windows 8.1 after I discovered that it wouldn't recognise discs. That's one of my biggest issues with Windows 10 and new laptops in general; the fact that discs are no longer supported. It's pretty frustrating, because all of my video editing software and games are on discs and now i'm going to have to buy them all online if I want to install them on my new laptop. Right now, I don't exactly want to spend more money seeing as how I had to spend $1691 just to buy my new laptop.

I didn't know Windows 10 doesn't recognise discs?! I've never experienced an issue like that before. It might just depend on the model, but I've never had any luck with it. My older, 2013 HP Pavilion couldn't recognise my SimCity 4 disc after I had upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, yet when I switched back to 8.1, it worked just fine. The HP Pavilion which I've just bought doesn't even have a CD drive! All of the other laptops which were on display in Harvey Norman and Domayne didn't have them either. Discs have become a thing of the past, unfortunately.

They are pretty cheap these days...

Yeah I've looked into that, but the only one Harvey Norman had was $75 and most of the discs I have probably wouldn't be compatible with Windows 10 anyway (the video editing software I use to make my videos is almost ten years old).
