It might just depend on the model, but I've never had any luck with it. My older, 2013 HP Pavilion couldn't recognise my SimCity 4 disc after I had upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, yet when I switched back to 8.1, it worked just fine. The HP Pavilion which I've just bought doesn't even have a CD drive! All of the other laptops which were on display in Harvey Norman and Domayne didn't have them either. Discs have become a thing of the past, unfortunately.Yeah, unfortunately in 5-10 years time, they'll be nostalgic. Most of my VHS stuff I digitised are on DVD and maybe in the next few years I'd like to put more on an external hard drive. You still have a PC with 95 on it?! I’m surprised it still runs (smoothly or otherwise). Do you have NT or DOS also? Haha it stopped working around 10 years ago and I fixed it about a year ago (had a faulty power supply). How funny does this sound, it has a 1.7gb hard drive (yes, gigabyte ). I'll have to share pics of my computer collection one day. I think it runs dos applications (as I'm pretty sure windows 98/ME also does).

Yeah I've looked into that, but the only one Harvey Norman had was $75 and most of the discs I have probably wouldn't be compatible with Windows 10 anyway (the video editing software I use to make my videos is almost ten years old). $75! Typical Hardly Normal price gouging. You’d be better off buying online, though if you think compatibility will be an issue with some of the old software you have then you probably shouldn’t waste your time/money.

Think of the things you could do these days with that huge 1.7gb HDD! Yeah, true. Do you have any MS-DOS games installed on any of them? Geez, that takes me back, lol.

I think theres a few, though I don't think I've really played them in a very long time and if I recall correctly a few are corrupted! I managed to install a Internet and USB card in the motherboard last year which is cool since it used dial up a long time ago! (I think it was my main family computer until 2001). Theres a few old ninemsn and channel 7 logos in the temporary internet files folder which is cool!

It's up to you what you decide to do of course, but if it were me, I would be trying to transfer them over onto an external hard-drive as soon as possible, tbh. I was really surprised by how quickly discs have become obsolete; even the desktop and gaming PCs that were on display didn't have CD-drives. Then again, you have a lot of computers to choose from, so you don't have to worry about your computer kicking the bucket before you get the chance to transfer the files over. $75! Typical Hardly Normal price gouging. You’d be better off buying online, though if you think compatibility will be an issue with some of the old software you have then you probably shouldn’t waste your time/money. Yep, they're a joke. In the end, I actually bought my laptop at Domayne (though it came from Harvey Norman as Domayne only had the display model), because they offered the biggest mark down in price. Both were selling the laptop for $1800, but Harvey Norman only offered to take $50 off. Domayne reduced the price by $109 and I ended up paying $1691 for the laptop. Tbh, I would have chosen to go to JB HI FI over Domayne and Harvey Norman if they had of had the HP Pavilion model I was after. I very rarely go to Harvey Normal for anything. Yeah, true. I'm still a bit undecided on what I should do. I mean, the video editing software (Sony Vegas HD Platinum 11 and Magix Video Ezy) I use were only released back in 2011, which isn't too long ago in the scheme of things. However, Windows 8 wasn't even available yet when they were released, so it could be a risk buying an external CD drive only to find out that they're not compatible with Windows 10. I'll probably just buy the updated programs online.

Great to hear you giving it a new lease of life rather than throwing it away like many would - myself included! Do you know which ones? I remember the times we had quite a few DOS games loaded on the family PC (this was around 98/99) that me and my brothers used to play endlessly. To be fair, 9-10 years in technology (of all things) is an eternity seeing the advancements made almost daily!
