I was a kid in a very dark, baggy, bleak looking era.

I was a kid in a very dark, baggy, bleak looking era. Hot topic jeans? No, I was just talking about the overall aesthetics of the Mid-Late 2000s. Fashion became all dark and loose fitting right around the time I turned 5 and things only started to lighten up when I was near the end of my childhood. I literally had the ultimate "emo" childhood, lol, having been 5-10 yrs old between 2004-2009.

The mid 2000s was such a teen oriented focused era it's interesting to see how those younger then me perceived it as a child

Yeah honestly this wasn't a real kid-centric era culturally. Probably at least in part to the focus on edge. The more popular kids shows were "tween" oriented a la Drake & Josh and some of the music was considered "inappropriate" like "Hollaback Girl". It was popular for kids to wear Etnies and Juicy style track suits.

Thinking back, I think the two biggest kid-centric trends back in 2005 would have had to have been "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "Pirates of the Carribean". There were kids-targeted shows out there as well of course, such as "Kim Possible", "Jimmy Neutron" etc., but you're right, the overall zeitgeist of the Mid 2000s and even the Late 2000s was aimed primarily at teens. There wasn't a genre of music at the time that could be said as having been "kid friendly" so to speak. The Early 2000s had both pop-punk and bubblegum-pop for kids, while the kids of the Early 2010s would have had electropop.

Though the telling thing is that despite being a driver of toys and whatnot, they’re PG-13 movies. It was a big deal at the time for Disney to release something a little more “graphic” and probably among the first movies to be widely approved for kids with that rating. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith was then also rated PG-13 after every other film in the series had been rated PG. While The Incredibles was only PG, it was still considered quite intense for a cartoon at the time. I don’t think the pendulum ever really swung back as much as there’s been a coexisting demand for other types of films.
