2019 didn't really feel that much 2010s and anything that was 2010s was already almost dead 2019 is still ten times more 2010s than 2020 ever was. Definitely not a 2020s year at all. Agreed. 2020 already feels transitional with the coronavirus pandemic and the previous significant tragedies that loosebolt mentioned. But I also think we're in a pop culture transition where it doesn't feel like late 2010s nor early 2020s; it's just on a pause right now thanks to COVID-19.

IMO it lasted from late 2010 to 2019 It began with the rise of mobile games, Minecraft becoming popular, new shows like The Walking Dead, My Little Pony, and Regular Show, the rise of EDM (in the form of dubstep), the Arab Spring, and smartphones becoming a common/popular thing, and ended with COVID-19, new streaming services like Disney+ and HBO Max, the George Floyd protests, and TikTok becoming the biggest social media platform.

Whereas from 2020 onwards, it literally defined youth and internet culture. Disney+ definitely signaled the end of 2010s culture, but it was still transistional. After HBO Max, Peacock, and Paramount+ all came out though, that’s when you knew the 2010s were truly over, and the 2020s had begun.

And it ended when The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, My Little Pony, Portlandia, and Regular Show all came out, Osama Bin Laden was killed, dubstep/EDM blew up, the Arab Spring happened, hipsters became the dominant youth subculture, mobile games like Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja became popular, Minecraft became popular, and touchscreen smartphones such as the iPhone and Android phones became popular in the 2010-2011 school year.

pre-2010s era: late 2008 - late 2009 (the 2010s are being set up by things like obama being elected, electropop getting popular, and facebook overtaking myspace)
early 2010s: 2010-mid 2013 -obama’s first term -7th gen gaming still relevant - skeuomorphism, pre-cancel culture, protest culture & pc culture - lady gaga and katy perry at their peak - shows like glee, breaking bad & jersey shore at their peak - hipster peak - electropop peak - dubstep - pre-trump
mid 2010s: mid 2013-mid 2016 - flat design takes over - instagram, snapchat, vine etc - 8th gen gaming takes over - trap fully mainstream - transition from cable to streaming era - tropical house, edm, dj mustard beats - obama’s second term - sjw and alt right culture rising - trump is a candidate and not president
late 2010s: late 2016-2019 - trump presidency - streaming takes over - early gen z culture - peak protest culture - hipster is dead mostly - peak trap - technically that would become more commonplace by the early 20s starts to come out (wireless earbuds, contactless payment, phones without home button or headphone jack, etc.)
classic 10s: 2010-2015 modern 10s: 2016-2019

Anyways, I associate the late 2010s with the Nintendo Switch, SoundCloud/mumble/emo rap, hypebeast culture, and the decline of EDM. My personal take is this Pre-2010s: mid 2008 to mid 2010 (Barack Obama wins the election, height of the Great Recession and beginning of the recovery, smartphones start to become popular, peak of BlackBerries, scene culture) Early 2010s: Late 2010 to mid 2013 (Angry Birds, Minecraft, RayWilliamJohnson, Facebook, hipsters, rage comics, relatively peaceful and calm, Jersey Shore, bronies, dubstep is EVERYWHERE) Mid 2010s: Late 2013 to mid 2016 (PewDiePie, FNAF, Undertale, Gamergate, rise of both feminism and anti-feminism, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, PS4 and Xbox One launch, Vine, BuzzFeed, flat design takes over, MLG memes) Late 2010s: Late 2016 to 2019 (Trump wins the election, media is filled with "orange man bad" stories, pop and meme culture gets dark, "sad boi" memes, Nintendo Switch comes out, Fortnite becomes a phenomenon, Jake/Logan Paul unfortunately become popular, Supreme and Champion shirts are EVERYWHERE) And for me personally Classic 2010s: 2010-2014 Modern 2010s: 2015-2019 With the turning point for me being Trump announcing his run in office, gay marriage being legalized nationally, Caitlyn Jenner coming out as trans, and 8th gen consoles completely displacing 7th gen consoles in popularity

The Wikipedia for Scene is not accurate at all, it didn't even make it to 2011 aside from some mid western states that get trends late and Niche tumblr accounts. It was out of the zeitgeist shortly before Fall 2009 started.
