I don't really know, 2009 mainly sucked due to the economy and celebrity deaths really, I didn't like the vibe that year either and the 2000s were clearly very stale by then (even though there was some new culture coming in). In terms of movies, I thought 2009 was actually quite strong (the late 2000s were a lot stronger than the early 2000s for movies in my opinion). I didn't enjoy the early 2000s that much personally. I did though enjoy 2000 (most of it), 2004, 2005 and 2007. 2006 wasn't bad personally, it was just a really weak year pop culturally.

I know it's a cliché at this point, but I'm going for 2009. Cartoon Network was relatively unwatchable (save for Chowder, Flapjack, TDI, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars), especially with the CN Real block. I couldn't believe it. Live-action shows on CARTOON Network. I hated that they went to the Disney/Nick route of programming and lost what made them unique: airing original and classic cartoons 24/7. Pop music was oversaturated with the Black Eyed Peas and their overrated, overplayed songs "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling". Pop rock was run-of-the-mill, uneventful, and washed-out at that point. "My Life Would Suck Without You" by Kelly Clarkson was a hallmark of that. Electro-R&B with songs like "Whatcha Say" by Jason Derulo and "Birthday Sex" by Jeremih were just really awful. The global economy was still in a recession. But video games like MW2 and Arkham Asylum were good, and movies like Up, Coraline, and District 9 are all classics. Basically everyone had the same reaction as far as Cartoon Network, the CEO really! went berserk and turned the network into wannabe Nick/Disney. I hate to say it but it will most likely leave a bad taste and will stick with the network.Eh i disagree. I think the network immediately got back on track in 2010 and fully recovered by 2013. Most people now just look back at CN real as a horrible experiment which didn't last long.

I find it interesting how both 2006 and 2009 tend to receive the most votes in these topics. 2009 I could maybe understand due to the GFC and how pop culture was slowly transitioning to the 2010s, but I do tend to think that 2006 is a bit underappreciated as a year.

I think a lot of it boils down to the movie selection that year being kind of dry except for Tokyo Drift (which also had the vibe of a straight to DVD movie) Music albums that year was prob top 3 of the 2000s. Disney Channel was in it's rebrand phase around here and pushed tons of people off, there was also the continuation of snap rap and the stupid dances like "Laffy Taffy" There is also the Wii vs Ps3 launch that came at the end of the year (which Ironically people were shitting on ps3) Then you had Sonic 2006 which was built up for a year as this NEW HD future Sonic and when the game came out in got panned. I also remember ECW coming back on syfy channel and having it being so bad. Lots of potential for pop culture that year with tons of misses

Looking back (and I know i'm bias, lol), 2006 was actually a pretty decent year for kids movies: * "Night At The Museum" * "Monster House" * "Hoodwinked" * "Happy Feet" * "Over The Hedge" * "Open Season" * "Ice Age: The Meltdown" * "The Ant Bully" Pretty good for a year that is universally loathed. C'mon people, where's the nostalgia posts for movies like "Open Season" and "Over The Hedge"? The Mid 2000s really are overlooked. Anyhow, these are all movies that I was into as a 7 year old kid at the time.

I’m shocked that 2001 only has 2 votes What's so surprising is how nobody has voted for 2008 well like I said above, to the people that lived 2001 as a teen it delivered minus 9/11 thats why you are not seeing any votes for it. There are a few people on here my age and I can see why they wouldn't vote 2001 as being the worst. As for 2008 I could agree on a vote with that because of the economy being destroyed.
