Here’s a few videos made by Business Week of then new Gadgets/Tech circa 2006-2008. Some of this stuff discussed seem pretty quaint by today’s standards. I’m putting these under a spoiler so I don’t slow down anybody’s browsers. Some videos may contain a circa 2006 Honda Ad at the beginning.

The other day I came across a mock video game console drawing I made back in 2008 and the description on the side of the page was something like "for internet use, a cable plugs into the back of the console". That really hit home as to how much technology has actually changed since the Late 2000s. Wifi wasn't even standard back then; my household still had dial-up up until as recently as 2010. Also, smartphones definitely weren't commonplace. The iPhone wasn't introduced here in Australia until June 2008 and I personally didn't know anyone who actually owned one. Blackberries were pretty popular in 2009, but 2007 and 2008 were still very much pre-smartphone years.

This was back when Netflix was a new thing. Not everyone had it. In fact, I'd say even the early 2010s was still a cable TV oriented era and not a streaming oriented one. The mid 2010s was really where the shift occurred. Anyways, I kinda miss those days. When tech was still new and exciting. When smartphones didn't define every aspect of technology, and instead, there were specialized devices for every function. Music, movies, video games, photography. Computers were the most popular way of accessing the internet. 2006-2008 just so happens to be my favorite era of the internet. Before Facebook took over, and before Farmville came out (which ruined gaming).

Yeah there was this period from Early 2007 - to like 2011/2012 where Netflix was a known brand with commercials always on TV, but it did not consume everyone yet. I liked it when Blockbuster video & Netflix were both existing at the same time, thats how it should be lmao

And in the mid 2010s, Netflix was so popular that the phrase “Netflix and chill” became popular.

2013 is when Netflix took over everything. That’s when they launched their original shows. And in the mid 2010s, Netflix was so popular that the phrase “Netflix and chill” became popular. I hate when they took over, I will always prefer Blockbuster video For me it's more about the decline of physical media in general, and the rise of streaming. Like I don't mind digital media as much so long as I can actually own my content. This is why I hate DRM, and this is why I hate streaming. However, I am an unapologetic pirate, at least when it comes to big companies.
