I watched Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One for the first time yesterday afternoon, a movie which is based on people in the year 2045 seeking an escape from life by entering into a virtual-reality universe called "OASIS". It was a really fascinating film to watch actually, because the way in which the year 2045 was depicted was far from being far-fetched. The characters in the film could use their minds (while using the VR headset) to control their appearance, age, gender etc. and the virtual world was made up of hundreds of thousands of people all around the world. It was really no different to existing online servers which can have up to 16-32 gamers in the one session, but obviously the virtual world wasn't accessed through a gaming system. Wade Watts' (the main character in the film) avatar was based on Marty McFly from the Back To The Future series and that's something I could picture people doing if a virtual universe were to exist; base their appearances off of pop culture icons. I'd definitely recommend watching the movie if you haven't already.
I personally think it's inevitable that a virtual-reality "universe" will exist in some form one day in the future, quite possibly as a successor to the internet. Why would we need a computer or smartphone device to access information or connect with others, when we could do it with the power of our minds? It would break the physical barrier between us and the virtual world.
What's your opinion on this?

It wouldn't be good, what would happen if students needed more help or one on one?

When I was a kid in 2000, I imagined "20 years from now" (2020) I could go into a virtual reality world with Pokémon everywhere and I could be a Pokémon trainer. In 2016 with Pokémon GO and VR headsets gaining traction it felt pretty iminent. Alas, it might be a couple of decades away

I am not sure if a virtual reality that people can actually go inside of will be possible this century. VR has existed even in the mid 20th century, but that was more like through VR headsets, and even now in 2020, VR headsets are really the only VR we have. Of course, I could use a virtual reality to escape from the reality we are all suffering in right now, but then, the reality we are living in right now is really the one that actually is important to us. I think to be honest, I would like if this reality improves.

It wouldn't be good, what would happen if students needed more help or one on one? I'd imagine some form of help assistance would be made available on a virtual universe. It wouldn't be the same "one-on-one" experience that you get between two people, but the need for that is arguably obsolete as it is considering the fact that you can search for any information on the internet. A virtual universe would take that to another level and life as we know it would exist in a made-up world. The year 2050 is still 30 years away and I would be willing to bet that there will be forms of technology which aren't yet in existence.

Well modern internet actually existed since the 1980s with usenet and the world wide web being invented in the late 1980s. Internet was first invented in 1969 with Arpanet and then telnet. In the mid 2000s was when the web really took over our lives.

This could happen with mark zuckerbergs "metaverse". Not that I want it to happen but it could.

It could, and it might help with the overpopulation problem.
