There was a report on 60 Minutes tonight, which discussed whether children of convicted murderers have "murder" (or 'evil') genes within them. Basically, the report questioned that if people become convicted murderers, their children could also pass on the 'gene' and they too could follow in the same footsteps. Do you believe people are "born" evil or do people become "evil" due to various factors (i.e how they grew up)?
In my opinion, I don't think anyone is actually born "evil". People become "evil" due to various factors, such as the way they are socialised, their family upbringing and certain circumstances. That's just my opinion.

No. I think that's just an excuse to be evil IMO.

I actually believe people are born evil. My evidence is the existence of murders committed by people when they were still children/youths.

Although, in some cases, some people could argue that the people who committed those crimes were too young to understand what they are doing. I guess it depends on the situation.

I can think of 2 cases in Britain where the murderers were 10 years old. At 10 years old, you certainly can distinguish right from wrong. In fact, if you are old enough to attend full time school (as opposed to kindergarten/nursery), you are old enough to comprehend what is right and what isn't.

I think this comes back to the question of nature vs nurture. I don't think you can completely ignore one or the other. I think some genes can make you prone to violence, but that doesn't mean you're going to be a more violent person, if you were raised in the proper environment.

To be completely honest, I think the notion that someone is actually "born evil" is a little bit far-fetched. I understand that some people commit crimes at a really young age, however in the majority of cases, people don't commit crimes just for the sake of it. There are several, underlying factors which contribute to the mental state of the perpetrator and there is generally a motive behind committing such a crime.

I still believe people are born evil but I hear what you say, Shark and respect your right to feel that way.

Makes sense, Shark, because two people can be raised in similar dysfunctional circumstances yet while one may become the worst serial killer in history, the other may become the scientist who finds the cure for AIDS or cancer.

Probs. I know for a fact that I was born a crybaby, how the f*** could it be different when it comes to evil?
