What are some major dumb inventions that would just be a waste of money or would affect lifestyle?
If I'll give one, it would have to be the Wall-E Axiom moving chairs and screens. Look at how fat they've become...

The nuclear bomb is up there, while having caused actual massive damage only on select few occasions scattered throughout modern history, it still is to this day the biggest contributors to political unease, tension and unwillingness to compromise between countries.

Automatons that are supposed to look like humans is the biggest nah in my opinion. Its worst than typical everyday use devices constantly releasing improved versions every other year.

Myspace is the only social media that should still be alive today in it's original form , it really was the right balance. There was more emphasis on exploring and meeting people vs closed off Facebook.
