Electronic music existed wayyy before 1985, that's ridiculously late. Even new wave, the genre that standardized the use of synths in popular music, started its commercial decline in 1985.

Many are already aware from the earliest Moog synethisers were pioneered by bands: Pink Floyd and Yes during the 1970s. Except the Electronic genre era only become popular and made better aware to a worldwide populus during the 1980s.

Except the Electronic genre era only become popular and made better aware to a worldwide populus during the 1980s. That's just super arbitrary tho. And still the 1985 starting point doesn't make any sense. Then why have rock's start at 1950? Its origins were definitely set in the early 50s, but it didn't become a popular genre of music until the mid-50s when songs like Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" started to become major sellers. People were well aware of electronic music before the 1980s even started anyway. All these were huge hits in the late 70s: ^Released in 1980 in the US, but it was already a huge hit in the UK and elsewhere in 1979. Not to mention all these electronic songs that made dents in the charts before the late 70s: ^Topped the charts way back in 1962!

Respectfully, my being a musician and others who saw BBC4 factual television programs about historic Electronic development, know these effects were first used in recording studios; Outside the £ financial affordability and feasibility for musical artists putting these large electronic aparatus on stage respectively.

Do you have an example (song or album) of what you consider the start of the electronic genre?
