Wow... I never realized to this extent before, but 1982 was godawful for American (mainstream) music. Seriously, what a drought of a year. It's a blessing that the rest of the world on the other hand went hogwild with the new styles, and especially the British brought some relief to the charts with new wave reaching its height of creativity. Otherwise, I do prefer 1981 over it for being more consistent,
1. Stevie Nicks - "Edge of Seventeen" 2. Yazoo - "Don't Go" 3. Madness - "Our House" 4. The Clash - "Rock the Casbah" 5. Dazz Band - "Let It Whip"
5. Marvin Gaye - "Sexual Healing" 6. The Go-Go's - "Vacation" 7. A Flock of Seagulls - "I Ran (So Far Away)" 8. Dexy's Midnight Runners and the Emerald Express - "Come On Eileen" 9. Men at Work - "Down Under" (An Aussie song mentioning the city where I live in, how cool!) 10. Patrice Rushen - "Forget Me Nots"
11. Rick Springfield - "Don't Talk to Strangers" 12. Adam Ant - "Goody Two Shoes" 13. Duran Duran - "Hungry Like the Wolf" 14. Asia - "Heat of the Moment" 15. Tommy Tutone - "867-5309/Jenny"
16. Imagination - "Just an Illusion" 17. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - "I Love Rock 'n Roll" 18. Fleetwood Mac - "Gypsy" 19. Men at Work - "Who Can It Be Now?" 20. Joe Jackson - "Steppin' Out"
Fortunately after this, the 1980s birthed arguably 3 consecutive years of greatness for me.
