I think that some kind of renting system, at least not a big as before but on some level, should come back when things get better. There is superior technology available on a physical format and potential for physical to be ahead of streaming ex. 8k etc However, I don't want to dish out $25-$45 on a single movie neither do always only want to be forced into streaming and the drawbacks it has
With current streaming I feel there is missing gap in the experience of having far too much too watch, lots of missing films or series, sometimes slightly poor quality picture, and almost feeling I'm like watching youtube on the screen with a different background, as opposed to that feeling of owning a physical product, the ritual of getting it and and taking to the time to watch and rewatch based on the purchase and bonus features and then if the quality is better than streaming that makes the purchase or rent even more worth while.
I tend to limit physical releases occasional rare VHS and out of print dvds but hopefully things could change later.
I'm still kind of still for DVDs and Blurays in general but its not practical to primarily use them, renting is mostly dead, and the Covid makes it harder to shop around. Yet it could be possible to manage a way.
What are your thoughts? What do you prefer?

I'm all for streaming. I'm watching shows whenever I want and wherever I want without paying for cable channels that I don't watch and seeing any commercials (besides a few exceptions like Peacock and Hulu).

I like the idea of ownership or visiting somewhere to borrow physical releases. if it’s more justified by getting better quality picture that streaming can’t provide which is still true for 8k or higher quality blu ray, so renting for certain things seems reasonable to me. Also I would rather get a box set or special dvd or blu ray of something I really care about as a fan or whatever, which I occasionally do, than stream it like watching something on YouTube.
