This was a pretty good year for rock 'n' roll and the then-new pop rock genre (a fusion genre pionered by The Crickets and The Everly Brothers), but bad for everything else. The most noteworthy thing about the charts this year though is the advent of the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
1. The Crickets - "Maybe Baby" 2. The Everly Brothers - "All I Have to Do Is Dream" 3. Peggy Lee - "Fever" 4. Jerry Lee Lewis - "Breathless" 5. The Teddy Bears - "To Know Him Is to Love Him" (Great work from Phil Spector from the get-go)
6. The Platters - "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" 7. The Chordettes - "Lollipop" 8. The Champs - "Tequila" 9. Chuck Berry - "Johny B. Goode" 10. Buddy Holly - "Rave On" (Man, we really did loose a great talent in 1959)
11. The Coasters - "Yakety Yak" 12. Ricky Nelson - "Lonesome Town" 13. Duane Eddy and His 'Twangy' Guitar - "Rebel-Rouser" 14. Conway Twitty - "It's Only Make Believe" 15. Bobby Darin - "Splish Splash"
16. Eddie Cochran - "C'mon Everybody" 17. Huey "Piano" Smith and the Clowns - "Don't You Just Know It" 18. Perez Prado and His Orchestra - "Patricia" 19. The Poni-Tails - "Born Too Late" 20. Sheb Wooley - "The Purple People Eater" (Better than anything by David Seville and The Chipmunks)
Obviously, you can prefectly post a top 5/10 in this thread since I know many aren't eager to explore 50s music.

My tastes in music generally only go back to 1964 at the earliest, so I wouldn't even be able to come up with a Top-5 list for 1958. The only two songs I personally enjoy from this year are "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Berry and "All I Have to Do Is Dream" by The Everley Brothers. I'll be honest though, I haven't explored the majority of the music from the '50s.
