I would say that it's a mixture of lighter color gradients, flat colors/minimalism, and sans serif/serif fonts.

V A P O R W A V E There were lots of bits and pieces of that aesthetic used in the 1980s as well like in sci fi movies and commercials

I agree the usage of gradients is one of the key things that make the late 2010s look different from the mid 2010s, which instead were all about flat colors (ex. Windows 8). That, plus the generally more rounded aesthetic of the late 2010s in contrast to mid 2010s boxiness, usage of thicker fonts in contrast to the thin fonts of the mid 2010s, and greater usage of 3D and transparency effects. Overall, the mid 2010s was peak minimalism, whilst the late 2010s, though still very minimalistic, did do some new things to make things more interesting and dynamic.
