I was inspired to make this thread after seeing a similar thread on inthe00s. What are things people seem to think is 2000's but is actually 2010's?
IMO I'd say the one thing that always gets mistaken for 2000's is the electropop era. While it did get its start in the 2000's, its peak was in the early 2010's. Another thing I'd probably add is hipster fashion.

Definitely electropop. People over-exaggerate how musically similar 2008 and the first-half of 2009 were to the Early 2010s. From what I remember, Lady Gaga didn't reach pop superstar status until around the turn of 2009, shortly after the US Election. "Just Dance" may have been a successful hit during the middle of 2008, however Lady Gaga didn't become a household name overnight. Katy Perry was actually more successful than her around that time. I wouldn't say electropop significantly defined the music scene of 2008 or the first-half of 2009 at all. As years, they were more so defined by post-grunge, emo, r&b and Late '00s-style dance-pop (which was pretty much a precursor to electropop).

"Just Dance" may have been a successful hit during the middle of 2008. Not even. If you follow its charting history, it nearly flopped after entering the Billboard for the first time. Then it re-entered the charts around mid-September and slowly became the megahit we know it today while the recession was happening. It's just one more convincing proof for my head-theory that electropop got truly going thanks to the recession.

Down here, it actually entered the Top-10 just two weeks after it made it's debut in July 2008, so I've got memories of it being a big hit during the middle of the year. Interestingly, it was a Top-10 hit here in Australia before it was one in the US and UK. In the UK, it didn't debut on their charts until as late as January 2009.
