Top 20 Songs (1987)

People on here seem to hate this year for music, but I dunno, I liked this year way better than 1986 in any case. Freestyle took over the pop charts and offers some much needed freshness as well as its best hits, even though crappy adult contemporary still hurts the radio charts while crappy glam metal the rock charts. Another big genre making into the charts would be sophisti-pop which is a more lush and jazz-oriented take on pop music from the UK. And all the while hip hop is still growing to make its mark on the charts. 1987 was by all acounts a year of abysmal low points (Def Leppard's "Put Some Sugar On Me" is so, so, so much worse than I remembered it being) but also some great highlights:

3. Taylor Dayne - "Tell It to My Heart"
4. Johnny Hates Jazz - "Shattered Dreams"
5. Belinda Carlisle - "Heaven Is a Place On Earth"

6. Depeche Mode - "Never Let Me Down Again"
7. Heart - "Alone"
8. T'Pau - "Heart and Soul"
9. Los Lobos - "La Bamba" 
10. U2 - "With or Without You" (So ahead of its time)

11. Banarama - "Love in the First Degree"
12. Salt-N-Pepa - "Push It"
13. R.E.M. - "The One I Love"
14. Whitney Houston - "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)"
15. INXS - "Need You Tonight"

16. M|A|R|R|S - "Pump Up the Volume" (The very first house hit song is already a great one!)
17. New Order - "True Faith"
18. Sabrina - "Boys (Summertime Love)"
19. Janet Jackson - "Let's Wait Awhile"
20. Peter Gabriel - "Big Time" 

Whitesnake's 1982 version of "Here I Go Again" which is blues rock is pretty good and would have made it on here, but unfortunately the 1987 glam metal version ruins the chorus completely.
