1979 is a wonderful year for music and overall a great way to end a decade on, although tainted by a hate-filled event. Disco has still the tight grip on the charts, although apparently its days are now counted with the Disco Demolition Night, fueled by hate-mongering towards a genre, that would eventually naturally decline anyway, but also racism and homophobia. I guess some of the hate could also come from the fact that rock artists continued to sell-out their sound to disco, with even hard rock bands like KISS falling for this phenomenon. The charts of 1979 also not only welcomed the arrival of new wave and synthpop, but synths are starting to take over in general!
1. Blondie - "Heart of Glass" 2. Donna Summer - "Hot Stuff" 3. The Buggles - "Video Killed the Radio Star" 4. Cheryl Lynn - "Got to Be Real" 5. Amii Stewart - "Knock On Wood"
6. ABBA - "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" 7. Supertramp - "The Logical Song" 8. Electric Light Orchestra - "Don't Bring Me Down" 9. Rickie Lee Jones - "Chuck E.'s In Love" 10. Cheap Trick - "I Want You to Want Me (Live)"
11. Earth, Wind and Fire & The Emotions - "Boogie Wonderland" 12. Gary Numan - "Cars" 13. Blondie - "One Way or Another" 14. KISS - "I Was Made for Lovin' You" 15. Pink Floyd - "Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)"
16. The Doobie Brothers - "What a Fool Believes" 17. Bee Gees - "Tragedy" 18. Donna Summer - "Bad Girls" 19. M - "Pop Muzik" 20. Sugarhill Gang - "Rapper's Delight" (Hey, the first hip hop hit! It's very cute and charming, but also a little long)

Pretty decent year for music! As you can see, i'm a big fan of the new wave tracks from that time:
1. "Rock Lobster" - B-52s 2. "Let's Go" - The Cars 3. "Cars" - Gary Numan 4. "Don't Bring Me Down" - ELO 5. "Dream Police" - Cheap Trick 6. "Knock on Wood" - Amii Stewart 7. "Boys Don't Cry" - The Cure 8. "What a Fool Believes" - The Doobie Brothers 9. "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" - Queen 10. "One Way or Another" - Blondie
11. "Tusk" - Fleetwood Mac (Not a fan of Fleetwood Mac, although I do like this) 12. "Video Killed The Radio Star" - The Buggles 13. "Computer Games" - Mi-Sex 14. "London Calling" - The Clash 15. "Heart of Glass" - Blondie 16. "I Fought The Law" - The Clash 17. "I Don't Like Mondays" - The Boomtown Rats 18. "My Sharona" - The Knack 19. "Good Times Roll" - The Cars 20. "Pop Muzik" - M
I actually don't like "Another Brick In The Wall", nor am I a fan of "I Was Made For Lovin' You". If i'm being honest, I think they are two of the most overrated tracks of the '70s. Pink Floyd had some great songs, but "Another Brick In The Wall" isn't one of them.
