1965 basically continues what 1964 started. The British Invasion has no brakes now with tons of beat bands invading the charts. Everything British is cool, and the mod style has overtaken music, fashion and art simultaneously. Meanwhile, Motown is on a roll releasing some of its best material. Besides those, the charts of 1965 also welcome the brazing sound of "garage rock". All in all, 1965 is a geniunely great year and a seminal one in rock history, but only serves as an intro to the absolute amazingness of the year after.
1. The Byrds - "Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season)" (Yeah, Yeah, I know, an American band is at the top in the year of the Brits, but c'mon) 2. Jackie DeShannon - "What the World Needs Now Is Love" 3. The Byrds - "Mr. Tambourine Man" 4. The Beatles - "Yesterday" 5. Four Tops - "I Can't Help Myself"
6. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - "The Tracks of My Tears" 7. The Rolling Stones - "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" 8. The Righteous Brothers - "Unchained Melody" 9. Bob Dylan - "Like a Rolling Stone" 10. Sonny and Cher - "I Got You Babe"
11. Strangeloves - "I Want Candy" 12. The Beatles - "Help!" 13. The Supremes - "Stop! In the Name of Love" 14. Tom Jones - "It's Not Unusual" 15. The Animals - "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"
16. The Lovin' Spoonful - "Do You Believe in Magic" 17. The McCoys - "Hang On Sloopy" 18. The Yardbirds - "For Your Love" (Proto-psychedelia) 19. Barry McGuire - "Eve of Destruction" 20. Martha and the Vandellas - "Nowhere to Run"
