The casting rumors and confirmed news is pointing to the Marvel Cinematic Universe setting up its multiverse which would also theoretically help make all past Marvel films MCU canon. According to reports, Maguire and Garfield are in discussion to appear in a Sony and Marvel film still in development that would see all three Spider-Men going toe to toe with their past and new villains.

Gee, with MGK releasing his pop-punk album and Tobey Maguire now returning to play Spider-Man, it seems like we are reliving the early 2000s.

In all seriousness though, I have always felt as though Tobey Maguire was the best actor for the role and it would be great if he were to return to it.
