Music of 2006 vs. Music of 2016: Which do you prefer?

2006. Probably the last time I bought a CD. Can't connect with much after that year. What have I got excited about since then? Fontaines DC maybe. Sometimes on Soccer AM there'll be a band that seems decent. But generally? I don't see any songwriting of the stature say pre millennium. I'm still happy listening to Placebo and of course, eighties music, the eighties is probably where I'm happiest.
