I can tell this is gonna be a controversial one I slightly prefer 2016, to be honest.

Personally I thought the mid 2000s was terrible for music so I prefer 2016

2016 was one of the best years for music of the 2010s. 2006 was one of the worst years for music of the 2000s. No comparison here.

Eh, 2006 wasn't that bad. 2016 was just better.

While 2016 was a good year for music mainly for albums alone, 2006 was a exceptional year for music in both album and single department. so 2006 for the win.

2016 was a good year for albums, but a lowpoint for the pop charts. 2018-2019 and 2021 all easily blow it out of the water, with only 2017 and 2020 being close to be as bad.
2006 was a legendary year for pop music, and you can't convince me otherwise.

2006, without doubt.
I've got to stick up for my 'peak' childhood year.
