For almost the entire full decade nes nostalgia was almost everywhere. While the system itself still holds up and is definitely worthy of tons of praise, do you think that it got way too much credit? Im beginning to think it did, and that consoles like the genesis and snes should have gotten more way attention prior to the mini consoles, in the midst of 2010s or even today considering the games were more playable more polished and just as icnonic if not more generally speaking.
I think the main issue is the way the nes was regarded as main focus point of old school gaming. I think what sets the nes back a bit is far too many first party titles were simply too hard when they came out, literally needed magazines or guidebooks or were a dead end, or were rage inducing or to hard to finish for kids, not to mention a lot of consoles were faulty even when barely used. Also a lot of people never experienced those games or still need to cheat as a lot of games like zelda, metroid are far too cryptic to beat with 0 help.
I dunno, I think the other systems and the 16 bit era generally offered a better difficulty curve, had more polished graphics and gameplay therefore deserved and even today deserve more credit, even though the nes is still really good system.
Your thoughts?

Its actually the exact opposite. Nowadays people mostly complain about NES games with talking points like "artificial difficulty", "lives are outdated", "(game title) hasn't aged well", "something was too cryptic".

I never liked the NES aside from Mario 3 and Kirby
Game Boy was so much better at being an 8 bit machine and had games that looked like quasi SNES , Mario Land 3 Wario Land, Donkey Kong Land, Super Mario Land 2. NEs did get too much credit in the 2010s, it should have stayed in the 2000s with it's 80s nostalgia. And yes SNES was way better as well as Genesis lmao

Don't get me wrong, I mean all old games were and are hard generally speaking and that's what makes them great but I mean there are certain nes games that seem kinda off without a guide or to age they were intended for. That being said its still one of my favorite consoles, but it always struck me a weird that gameboy genesis and super nintendo got dimissed and only focused on for a bit in the late 2010s, when they should have been in spotlight at the same time. Also considering the genesis and super nintendo has games closer to their arcade and more playable and iconic titles. I'm guessing its because the AVGN and hipster fashion stuck to the nes and those born from 1975-1980 who get the nes when it first came out had more of an influence in the late 2000s and early 2010s?
