Out of curiosity, what do you guys think is the least kid-friendly era? It could be anything from the early 1970s to the late 2010s.
I would have to say the mid-1970s, apart from a few animated stuff and disco it wasn't really all that kid-friendly. Most of the good stuff like the Jetsons and Flintstones were from previous eras and I think that Disney only released one Animated Canon movie during that time.

Right now for sure. Kids don't really have anything good to watch. They watch slime videos and Tiktok. Also with corona and the political climate I imagine it's gotta be confusing for them. Most kid friendly era was probably the late 90s cause 90s kids wouldn't shut up about how great their childhood was

Since the early 1970s?
Least kid friendly: 1970s - Not very much stuff aimed towards kids for the whole decade. If there was anything aimed for kids, it was usually pretty bad. Disney was in a dark age and animated TV shows were mostly really bad/lacking, pretty much all of the slightly decent kids shows were live action. In the 1970s, it was seen as very uncool to have children, the family friendly orientated 1950s was well gone, single parents/broken homes increased drastically, child abuse wasn't looked at very seriously and so on (this is just what I have heard). There was many popular toys though, lite-brite, Space Hoppers, Walkie Talkies, Tonka, Connect Four, Star Wars toys, Simon and so on.
Most kid friendly: late 1980s - early 2000s (specifically 1988 - 2003/04ish) - There was so much stuff aimed towards kids that it would take me forever to list. Disney renaissance, early Pixar, early Dreamworks, a lot of good live-action kids/family movies, a ton of good TV shows, Nickelodeon & Cartoon Network were at a golden age. There was also a lot of iconic Toys/Franchises such as TMNT, Power Rangers, Pogs, Pokémon, Beanie Babies, Tamagotchi, Furbies and so on. Video gaming was also huge (obviously) and was mainly aimed towards children until the late 90s (when video games became aimed towards everyone), there was NES, Game Boy, Genesis, SNES, PS1, N64, PS2, GBA and so on. Also, child abuse was looked upon a lot more seriously and having kids was seen a lot more "cooler" among adults. Btw, I know I might sound quite bias but, I swear this was one of the best times for childhood.

I agree with the suggestion that the Mid '70s were one of the least kid-friendly eras. These are some other candidates:
Late 2000s: The Late 2000s were a hugely mixed big. On one hand, they were underwhelming in the sense that the pop culture of the time was so heavily teen-centric (due to emo's popularity) and also very transitional, but on the other hand, being an 8/9 year old kid when the 'edgy' aesthetic was popular was pretty cool. I would consider the Late 2000s to have been a noticeable step-down in terms of kid-friendliness in comparison with the late '80s-early '00s and especially the early 2010s, however they weren't without their positive points too.
Late 2010s (inc. 2020): Being a kid during the Late 2010s and the year 2020 would be pretty sucky IMO. Sure kids today have the luxury of being able to watch their favourite shows/movies through Netflix and that in itself is great of course, but the overall culture just isn't kid-friendly in the slightest. I mean, imagine experiencing your childhood during the era of mumble-rap's dominance on the charts and Trump's presidency. The MCU has also wound down in terms of popularity, lockdown restrictions have meant that cinemas and other entertainment venues have been closed for months, and the kids movies that have been released over the past few years haven't had the same cultural impact and legacy as movies from previous eras. The overall mood and zeitgeist of the current era isn't even bright and bubbly, it's downbeat and depressing. It wouldn't be a good era to be a kid in at all.

The mid-70s were a terrible time for animation for sure, but I dunno if it was a per se bad time to be a kid in all around. It was a time before child abdunction numbers skyrocketed and become a growing concerning problem, so in any case the mid-70s were a lot safer to be a kid than the late 80s for instance.

My Dad was 7-9 years old during the mid '70s and he speaks pretty fondly of the era. To be honest, I don't there's any modern era that genuinely would have been terrible to have grown up in. Sure some cultural eras are more 'kid-friendly' than others, but at the end of the day, kids still find a way to entertain themselves and create happy memories. Even kids growing up today would generally still be enjoying their childhoods. It's the only thing they've ever known.

The mid-70s, hell arguably the 70s in general were lacking in general content for kids. That's not to say it's as bad as being a kid in, say, the 1930s, but it's definitely a period I wouldn't really want to grow up as a kid in.

I feel bad for the late 2010s kids and those still a kid in 2020. I can't imagine having a limited childhood due to a pandemic.

The 1970s was probably the least kid-friendly decade of all time. I think somebody on here suggested specifically the mid 70s. Disney animation was in the dark ages back then. Gen X was literally struggling to find educational entertainment as kids. The adults really did not care about the children during that time. Strauss and Howe mentioned something about this being a big reason why Generation X became so cynical and pessimistic of the world. Baby Boomers were heavily indulged in the 1950s and even the 1960s and very carefully parented while Gen Xers were very carelessly parented and neglected. They were called the new "Lost Generation".

I love the late 2000s as that was a very underrated and overlooked period of time where I spent the ultimate peak of my childhood in, but I will admit that I had more fun in the early 2010s and with that era as it was more upbeat and optimistic, even though I was starting to experience adolescence around that time, compared to the late 2000s where I was fully a kid. That is probably how you feel about the mid & late 2000s. Which do you prefer more? The mid 2000s or late 2000s?

2020 is the least kid friendly year in recent times just based on COVID-19. Also 6-13 year olds are more vulnerable than ever to be bullied, preyed upon, disturbed or damaged by the internet than ever, which is incredibly easy to access and easy to bypass child locks.

Idk, kids seem to be playing outside everyday in my neighbourhood. It worried me back in March but now I don't care anymore lol. I'm actually quite jealous of them, I think they get to spend more time with the family than I did, with WFH being a big thing now.

It is, tbh. I consider all of the late 2000s to have been my childhood, but 2009 was the year in which I personally started to enter my pre-teens and it wasn't an outright childhood year in the same way that 2004-2008 were. In saying that though, I definitely prefer the Late 2000s as an era. I'm not going to lie, being 8 years old in 2007 was pretty great, especially considering how rock music was still perceived as being cool/edgy at the time and going to see "The Simpsons Movie" and "Transformers" at the cinemas was cool. I'm hugely nostalgic for the mid 2000s as well, but the pop culture of the mid 2000s kind of makes me cringe at the same time, lol.
