The late 2010s were definitely a terrible time to be a kid in, terrible music, lackluster animated movies, you also could get scammed out of money from P2W video games, and the political climate is possibly the worst it's ever been. And let's not forget 2020...

Well, the early-mid 1970s had mostly forgettable cartoons, corny bubblegum pop and a lack of iconic toys and games (besides Pong, Nerf balls, and skateboards).
On the other hand, the late 2010s and early 2020s (so far) has/had things like Fortnite, fidget spinners, the Nintendo Switch, MCU, and YouTube Kids (albeit highly controversial). But the popular music, like reggaeton, mumble rap and trap, is targeted more towards teenagers and young adults.
So in terms of pure pop culture, I would say that the early-mid 70s was a lame era for a kid.

And let's not forget 2020... Not at all. Fortnite and the Switch alone sends it to legendary status. A lot of the Disney movies and remakes and MCU movies were good too. I think sman12 said most of what I was going to say. Kids don't care about politics lol.

The 60s were pretty tumultuous too. Race riots, MLK assassination, Cuban Missile Crisis, it was a very uncertain time.

From between about 1971 to 1976, there was only one Disney movie (a rather mediocre one at that), rather bland cartoons, and virtually nothing good targeted towards kids. Not to mention, the 70s was the raunchiest decade of all time with literal PORN MOVIES like Deep Throat, and Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex being some of the most popular movies. The Godfather was the highest-grossing movie of 1972, whilst The Exorcist was the highest-grossing movie of 1973. Both are masterpieces but I'll be damned if I let my kids see them. Inappropriate would be a huge understatement.

Since the early 1970s? Least kid friendly: 1970s - Not very much stuff aimed towards kids for the whole decade. If there was anything aimed for kids, it was usually pretty bad. Disney was in a dark age and animated TV shows were mostly really bad/lacking, pretty much all of the slightly decent kids shows were live action. In the 1970s, it was seen as very uncool to have children, the family friendly orientated 1950s was well gone, single parents/broken homes increased drastically, child abuse wasn't looked at very seriously and so on (this is just what I have heard). There was many popular toys though, lite-brite, Space Hoppers, Walkie Talkies, Tonka, Connect Four, Star Wars toys, Simon and so on. Most kid friendly: late 1980s - early 2000s (specifically 1988 - 2003/04ish) - There was so much stuff aimed towards kids that it would take me forever to list. Disney renaissance, early Pixar, early Dreamworks, a lot of good live-action kids/family movies, a ton of good TV shows, Nickelodeon & Cartoon Network were at a golden age. There was also a lot of iconic Toys/Franchises such as TMNT, Power Rangers, Pogs, Pokémon, Beanie Babies, Tamagotchi, Furbies and so on. Video gaming was also huge (obviously) and was mainly aimed towards children until the late 90s (when video games became aimed towards everyone), there was NES, Game Boy, Genesis, SNES, PS1, N64, PS2, GBA and so on. Also, child abuse was looked upon a lot more seriously and having kids was seen a lot more "cooler" among adults. Btw, I know I might sound quite bias but, I swear this was one of the best times for childhood. I would the best kids era would be from 1986 to 1999, most of what existed in 1988 was there with the real ghostbusters, madballs, thundercats, transformers, skateboarding, garbage pail kids, Alf, my pet monster and nes in 1986 . 1978 to 1985 and 2000-2004 were a step below but still pretty good. 2008 to 2017 or so isn’t bad actually better than 2000-2001 and 2005-2007 but the only thing that holds it back is creativity in kids culture isn’t as strong and it feels more manufactured
