Two days ago I discovered FOX US' streaming service and as I was watching a livestream of a Californian FOX station just for the hell of it, this happened to come on: {Spoiler} It was a minute-long commercial advertising a HIV treatment pill and the beneficial effects of taking it. I found it kind of interesting because medication companies aren't allowed to advertise their drugs in the media in Australia. The only drug-related commercials we have here are for pain-relief tablets like Panadol or Nurofen, but definitely none for HIV pills! I'm not sure what everyone else thinks of it, but I personally don't agree with the idea of promoting them in the media. I see it as purely being a form of emotional exploitation and financial greed. The commercials are presented in a way so that they are seen as being "helpful" to the viewers who may be watching it, but when you ignore the facade, it's pretty clear that isn't the case at all. It just doesn't sit well with me. Then again, that might just be because I come from a country which doesn't have that type of advertising in the media. What is your opinion on this? Should drugs be advertised in the media? Is it beneficial to society or exploitational?

I definitely think it's unethical but I am not sure whether it should be illegal. I would be okay with only over-the-counter drugs being advertised if we were able to draw a solid line there.
