I don't think the disappointment of 2020 can really be compared to 2000.

I am not talking about culture or politics. What I mean to ask is are they both disappointing, letdown years? As 2000 was approaching, people were excited for the new millennium & century, along with the world ending on Saturday, January 1, 2000. But the world did not end, the dot-com bubble burst on March 1, 2000 and Bush got elected president even though Gore won the popular vote (similar to 2016 when Trump won even though Clinton won the popular vote). As 2020 was approaching, people were excited for it as a new decade was arriving and the 2010s would be over. Instead, 2020 brought us quarantine, Coronavirus, fires, protests, shootings, disaster after disaster after disaster. I made a thread kind of like this before covid hit, was super spooky it was was using astro data to determine a 9/11 type event would hit in early 2020 (Covid I think we can all agree was WORSE then 9/11) even tho its apples and oranges. this post I made was in 2019 popedia.boards.net/thread/3081/astrologers-saying-2020-forecast-looking
I know astrology is not for everyone LOL

They're complete polar opposites in almost every regard. I was too young at the time to know of it myself, but i'm sure many people still would have had a lot of hope for the future during 2000 (even after the Y2K celebrations had died down).

The whole late 90s attitude/optimism was very much alive until the election controversy in very late 2000.

2020 is a nasty and unpleasant year to live through. I have no idea why someone would compare that to 2000. Sure, the Brush administration was a blunt mistake, and most political issues of the 2000s is rooted back to it, but that still doesn't compare to how straightup broken the turmoils of 2020 are.

Despite the US election crisis, 2000 seemed like a fun year to be alive in if you were a kid or teen. The Y2K shutdown didn't happen, PS1, N64 and Dreamcast were still going strong, the Olympics actually happened, and pop music, aided by acts like Britney, Christina, NSYNC, and Backstreet Boys, was corny yet upbeat.
The years are WIDELY different.

2000 is one of my least fav years of the 2000s but atleast we didnt have covid I thought 2003, 2007, 2009 were your least favorite years of the 2000s. 2000 seemed better than those years. I can see why you feel that way because I hear that 2000 was a late 1990s extension year with pop culture still being in the late 1990s era, whether it’s music, movies, games, TV, fashion, politics, economy, etc. 2001 is when it seemed like the 2000s were starting to establish their identity. I also remember how you hated the 2000-2001 school year. 2000 and 2007 and 2009 are, 2003 I have warmed up 2 tbh so I knocked it out of 2000's place, you are correct 2000 just was too bland for my taste. The Teen pop was way 2 much at that point, it was like ALRIGHT I GET IT lol and serious fatigue with it was setting in with everyone. Yupp even early to mid 2001 as I have documented here were boring AF to me, my 2000s adventure didn't start until Fall 2001 the night of the 2001 MTV VMAS where Britney had the snake. But to go back on what you were saying before.... I HATED the 2000-2001 school year for being so slow, WWF was becoming lame, Teen pop was seemed as LAME AF, and so many damn reruns on tv, I think they just ran out of episodes to show that school year LMAO After The Cell Saga aired on Cartoon Network it's like the channel didn't know what to do so they put Toonami on Kids WB! as well with even more reruns. I know one poster here got a ps2 in 2000 which shocked me and he was lucky because ps2 had shortages until Fall 2001, I didn't even get to play a ps2 until then which pissed me off. I think slashpop will agree with me in things were very long in the tooth by 2000-2001 school year. By far THE SLOWEST year of all time. I was in this bad girls type of school for 7th grade and I was not allowed back to my normal school to resume 8th grade until Fall 2001, so as you can imagine I was counting down the days every single day until I could go back. The only funny thing I can think of of that year is when Razr Scooters started blowing up and costing 600 dollars, oh and the Summer was atleast tolerable with good movies and a Game Boy Advance drop

Nothing similar about 2000 and 2020 at all. It's an insult to 2000 to even ask this question.

I'm not into teen pop, so I guess I didn't miss much in music from that time besides hip hop, rock, R&B, electronic, jazz, other genres except country. I remember Moesha ended on a cliff hanger in May 2001 which is pretty fucked up which is in the 2000-2001 school year. It seemed like everyone grew up in 2001 as stuff became more mature, grown, adult. How come u were in the bad girls school? I didn't know there was such a thing. I got PS2 in 2008. I didn't get a Razr Scooter until 2009 tehehe. When Max Payne and GTA III came out the hits started coming out, and then FF X it was like sony was waiting until Fall 2001 for some reason. In the 6th grade I had a lot of absences so they put me in this transitional 6th/7th hybrid school in the 2000-2001 school year 2 towns away from me. The school was really a boarding school type vibe where you could not talk it was so bad. We were all allowed to go back to our normal school for 8th grade once The 2001-2002 school year started, the entire 2000-2001 school year was a place holder for me getting back to my normal school. I remember in May of 2001 just looking @ the Shrek book covers they gave us and being so bored out of my mind i started counting tiles on the celing.

Wow that sucks. It's kind of like how no one at lunch in my elementary school was allowed to talk. I wonder when GTA 6 will drop. I thought it was supposed to drop in 2018 or 2019. it was the most boring school year of all time for a reason in my eyes lmao Ugh that must of sucked for u. I remember when I went back to 8th grade in Fall 2001 I was like...WE CAN TALK? like I had to get used to talking during and before class

Technically while I’m not a big fan of the latter 2000s an arguement could be made that a year like 2008 was insanely better time to live in.

Technically while I’m not a big fan of the latter 2000s an arguement could be made that a year like 2008 was insanely better time to live in. I think you could be right, like when looking at stuff from 2000 it just has this auto pilot vibe, I think it REALLY started to feel like this shortly after Pokemon the movie 2000 came out and it had all these faux Nsync groups doing the soundtrack they weren't nsync or backstreet but they were like clone boy bands thats when I knew the fad had jumped the shark. When I started seeing y2k font on water bottles from Ocean Spray I knew it was ending lol it also became clear Sega was misfiring badly with Dreamcast, Ps2 hype was starting to eclipse Sega by the time we go to Fall 2000, we all know what happened a few months later. The few GOOD stand outs of 2000 to me - Sega Dreamcast still being used (despite BAD decisions by Sega) - the debut of Nelly - Very good WWF tv and Pay per views such as Summerslam 2000, Blacklash 2000, Judgement Day 2000 - Tony Hawk 2.......... Need I say more - Pokemon The Movie 2000, yes it was as good if not maybe even better then the first one - Dragon Ball Z's Cell Saga & Android Saga on Cartoon Networks Toonami - The Razr Scooter trend - Pokemon Silver - Toonami block - Kids WB really good - Eminem A Few TERRIBLE stand outs of 2000 - Boy band over saturation - oversaturion of y2k typefaces in media - WCW was terrible - Fox Kids was doing badly aside from Digimon Season 2. Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue ? LMAO NO thanks ................... - over saturation of shiny clothes - Nick sucked so badly at this time, Spongebob took a good year to develop itself
