2011 is almost ten years ago, believe it or not. Yep, that means songs such as Adele's "Rolling In The Deep", LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" and Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" are close to being a decade old! It's hard to fathom. With that in mind, I thought it would be good to have a topic where we could share our memories from 2011, as well as talk about the trends and releases from that year which we like.
This was one of my favourite songs when I was 12. I liked it so much that I even asked my Mum to buy it for me off iTunes and put it on her iPod Classic so that I could listen to it while we were in the car. Almost ten years later, I would still consider it to be one of Lady Gaga's best songs.

Actually this is perfect timing! I just made an appreciation post of the 2010-2011 school year on Reddit! It's more 2010 than 2011, but it still works.

2011 is my favorite year of the 2010s. I was 11 going on 12, graduated 6th grade just entering the 7th grade. The Pop Culture was eccentric and fun. Pop Music that was incredible one of my favorite years in pop music ever. I love Lady Gaga's The Edge Of Glory song. My favorite song from Lady Gaga. That summer was nothing but FUN! It was the last year where everything felt like a different time/country to me.

2011 is one of my favorite years of the 2010s. I was in middle school throughout the entire year, same as 2012. I absolutely loved the music, games, and movies. My dad bought us an iPad in early 2011 and it was impressive when I used it. The atmosphere felt like one giant party. It was the first year to feel firmly in the 2010s and the 2000s stuff were becoming irrelevant.

I was in middle school in 2011, 7th grade in the early 1/2 & 8th grade in the latter 1/2. I turned 13 in May 2011 & got my 1st cellphone which was a Verizon slider. I enjoyed summer 2011, 1 of the best summers of the 2010s since I went 2 Disneyland. That fall I went 2 my 1st birthday party 4 a friend who turned 13. I don’t miss the bullying I faced, being chubby & the fights with my father. Pop culture was fun like the music & movies, even tho a lot of it is cheesy. I went 2 movies every other weekend or every month. Rebecca Black’s Friday, TGIF, birthday, party, weekend songs were charting left & right. LMFAO was huge that year with Sexy & I Know It & Party Rock Anthem & vanished after. Adele got popular. Rihanna, Drake, Lil Wayne, Katy Perry, Kesha, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars were all over the radio. 2011 is an improvement over 2010 IMO. 2011 is the peak of early 2010s culture. I remember thinking in 2011 or 2012 that we truly entered the 2010s. 2011 is when the 2010s were @ their freshest.

2011 was an amazing time for a kid like myself. I remember listening to songs like Friday (sadly), Party Rock Anthem, We Found Love, etc. YouTube was still a great site to go on with users like Smosh, CaptainSparklez, Jenna Marbles, and lots more. The 3DS was talked about almost all the time at my school. Plus, there was MW3 hype, Skyrim, Internet trollfaces, and the popularity of Nyan Cat.
While 2012 is still my favorite year of the 2010s, 2011 was a great year for pop culture. The early 2010s compared to now is way more idyllic than it needs to be lol.

I cannot believe that 2011 is 10 years old now. I miss 2011 so freakin much now. I did not even celebrated new years 2021, I went to bed. But I already knew 2021 is gonna be problematic. The more that I think about it, I consider 2011 to be last year before things got out of control. When 2012 hit, society has started to go down hill from there. It all started with the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman fiasco, Aurora Movie shooting/Sandy Hook Shooting. It gotten a lot worse since. I am not quite sure what 2021 and beyond is going to be like for the world. 2011 for the most part was a stress free year.

Skyrim and Saints Row The Third, I have so many memories following the release of these games, bruh. I got Saints Row 3 first and then Skyrim. Also, DJ Khaled - On One is like my anthem of 2011.

It was terrible for my personal life, but even then, I could still tell that it was a great year for pop culture.

I've got a lot of good memories of 2011, but it also makes me cringe when I think back to it. I had something of a sheltered upbringing as an only child. When I first joined Facebook in July that year, I used to randomly send "hello" messages to all of my Facebook friends who happened to be online, even if I never actually spoke to some of them much at school. I didn't know the 'social media etiquette' at all. I had no idea what abbreviations like "wbu", "brb" meant for the first few months or so after I joined and for some reason, all of my messages were really formal too. I used to say "hello" or "goodbye" to anyone who I chatted to on there. Looking back, I feel really bad about it and wish that I could have done things differently. After my best friend at the time came out to me in a Facebook message one night as being bi, he spoke about how his male crush (who was the lead singer of a popular American boy band) had made suicide attempts and instead of being there to truly support him, I said to my friend things like "maybe he should go to the doctors" or "that's not good". Also, he once spoke to me about how his crush and his crush's boyfriend were planning on getting married and one day having an adopted child, but I said in response, "it would sort of feel weird not having a natural mum". Just cringy things like that. There were girls who I was friends with that were clearly showing interest in me and I was completely oblivious to it. One of them was two grades below me and she would ask to chat to me on Skype almost every night, but most of the time I said that I never felt like it. Being a teenager in the early 2010s kind of sucked, but like I mentioned, I do have positive memories from then too. Things like staying up to 2am in the morning to watch a lunar eclipse, getting my first smartphone, going to Canberra on a school camp etc., are good memories I have of 2011. Also, I liked quite a number of the songs that were on the charts too, even if I was never into electropop. So 2011 wasn't all bad.

What I like about 2011 is that it already had most of the stereotypical 2010s culture but it just wasn't as excessive and shoved down your throat like a few years after, it had a few 2009 vibes as well.

Yeah I agree with that. 2012 had a bit more excessive 2010s culture but I feel like it’s the last year to have a moderate 2010s atmosphere and not being as extravagant compared to 2014.
