What did you think of this style? From what I remember, I think it was a fake/parody movement, not a real one, that eventually turned into more of electronic music genre and had a greater aesthetic influence for a bit. I think it was linked early on to tumblr culture and hipsters of the early 2010s. I'm not sure exactly but I do know that it was getting popular between sometime around 2011 to mid 2013 maybe a bit after before it led to vaporwave, I remember stumbling onto the imagery and watching some videos related to it at that time and hearing about it fade out later on, I think it was based on use any old 80s/90s iconic, tech or raver imagery with a beachy and or edgy vibe and recapturing the beach vibe meets punk attitude through electronic music. I find it interesting because it seemed a bit different. It also influenced some other artists who mainstreamized the asthetic.
Here is a music video by azelia banks with a seapunk theme. There is something a bit cringe about it but I'll give it effort for attempting to be original.
What do you think of this?
From 2012
Rihanna helped mainstreamize it
MTV weird vibes report:
From early 2013

This was noticeable at my university in the mid-2010s (2013-2016ish). People dyed their hair pink, silver, neon green and all sorts of colour.
I remember it from the 2000s too but I think that was scene/emo. It might have been a precursor to this. The colours were usually orange, purple or electric blue instead of pastels popular in the mid-2010s.

I remember seeing gothy mall punk people in 2005 with the dyed blue tips and some semi sea punk vibes.
