Third wave Trap has a more bouncy pop vibe to it, or it can also be swingy and taking cues from DJ Mustard in the first wave of Trap in 2014. More upbeat and catchy compared to the very generic second wave Trap beats that are slow and overused. All they did in the second wave of Trap is mumble for no reason.
Great examples: -Roxanne by Arizona Zervas -Mood by 24kgoldn -Truth Hurts by Lizzo -Savage by Megan Thee Stallion
Seriously though, it sounds more distinct and diverse compared to acts like Migos, Lil Pump, or 21 Savage in the second wave in 2016-Mid 2019.

Third wave trap with the likes of DaBaby, Roddy Ricch, and the other artists you've mentioned definitely sounds a lot more lighter and poppier than the grunge/punk-esque, dark mumble rap/trap from 2017 up to late 2018. It kinda reminds me of the musical transition from grunge to post-grunge and pop punk in the 90s.

I also like Panini from Lil Nas X better than Old Town Road too because it sounds happier and newer, old Town road is on the cusp of the second wave and third wave of Trap I'd say

I think Trap has been popular in the mainstream since very late 2012/2013? Do you think trap will be popular in about a year or even better 2 years from now? Not saying all trap is bad, but I do think it has run its course. It’s time for a different genre of music to get popular in the mainstream.

I actually prefer the second wave, to be honest. I don’t think those guitar instruments really goes well with trap.

Bump IMO First Wave: 2010-2013 (starts with Waka Flocka Flame's 2010 charting hit "No Hands".)
Transition: 2013/14-2015 (the sound of trap changed quite a bit in late 2013/2014 from the 2010 era sound, but it wasn't quite Second Wave yet, this is the era where genre blew up following Fetty Wap's 2014-15 hit "Trap Queen".)
Full on: Second Wave: 2015/16-2018 (Soundcloud rappers start blowing up, face tattoos, colored dreads, etc.)
Third wave: 2018/19-now (what we're in now, melodic, bouncy, and sometimes somewhat poppy.)

I agree. The trap songs nowadays sounds more popish rather than dark emo like the late 2010s. You can clearly hear more of them on the radio.

Yeah, I'm so glad that we're getting out of that, I didnt really like emo rap aside from a few songs by XXXTentacion and Juice Wrld (Juice Wrld sounds more upbeat though). And please, do not get me started with mumble rap, I'm just happy that there's more lyricism nowadays
