95 even video games were darker, this was literally the darkest platformer ever released in the 90s

'95.
OKC bombing. Overall the year had a dark feel. Music had a whiny, pessimistic vibe that year (see song below). Video games were very dark-fantasy or demon oriented. That was also the worst year of my childhood.

1996 wasn't that dark. Any point from Late 1992 to 1995.

1994 and 1995 Grunge aesthetics were everywhere in those two years, and grunge and gangsta rap were huge. I’ll go with the former though due to Kurt Cobain’s death and depressing-ass songs like Black Hole Sun. But the latter is close. When I think of 1995 I think of the movie Se7en.
