Believe or not, 2011 is turning 10 years old, which sort of makes me sad and puts me into a nostalgic mood. I'm somehow more OK with 2006 turning 15 than 2011 turning 10. As usual, music is my main way to reminisce about a specific year. Here are my picks to feel the 2011 vibes:
The clip in particular encapsulates teenage parties in the early 2010s so well. I truly love the cheesy aesthetics and atmosphere of this, and it even includes cast members of Glee for good measure.
This song is just so futuristic and forward thinking, I definitely struggle to understand how it will already turn 10 years old. But that's the unfortunate rise and fall of dubstep for ya.
Something I strongly miss about the early 2010s is the cultural obsession around the Mayan doomsday of 2012. It added so much intrigue and a mysterious feel to the atmosphere of pop culture back then. Once we passed that fateful day in December 2012 things were never the same again.
Rihanna pretty much vanished from the music scene since 2017, a stark contrast to 10 years ago when she peaked commercially with this song in particular being everwhere in fall of 2011.
2011 was the world's introduction to Adele, even though she had a few hits in her homeland a few years before. This song is really bittersweet to me. It's basically the soundtrack to my teenage heartbreaks and the memories attached to it.
Definitely the goofiest of goofs in the music scene back then. Such a duo would so not work in our current world, mindless but definitely not edgy enough. Love them or hate them, but they were definitely a reflection of how much more lighthearted things used to be. And this song is damn catchy.
My favorite song of the 2010s is turning 10! This song is just so lush and gorgeous, simple but poetic. I love its electric instrumentation in particular and the sense of wonder it offers. I have sometimes a hard time listening to it since I usually get overwhelmed by the nostalgia.
So what are your picks for celebrating 2011's 10th anniversary?

2011 is one of my favorite years for music in the 2010s
Nicki Minaj is considered the "black Lady Gaga". This was her step into electropop.
Jennifer Lopez had a mini comeback this year and she got it right with this electro house influenced track
This wouldn't be a hit today due to obvious reasons. Besides that, it was probably one of the songs that made the indie boom possible
Ah yes, the first track to emphasize Adam Levine in Maroon 5 and their "sellout" track but it's catchy at least.

As a sidenote it's so weird to see how long songs used to be. Most songs nowadays barely reach the 3 minutes mark for some reason.

"Somebody That I Used To Know" was a huge hit in other parts of the world in 2012, but here in Gotye's home country of Australia, it was actually one of our best-selling songs of 2011. This is one of the last songs that truly crossed the generational barrier and became a well-known smash hit among people of all ages IMO, everyone knew about it. Both of my parents liked this. My Dad even went as far as to buy the album from JB HI-FI not long after he first heard it. I've always been a fan of this song as well, but if i'm being honest, I actually prefer "Eyes Wide Open" over this, which was a lesser-known hit of his that was on the charts around the same time that STIUTK was. I can remember thinking at the time that the chorus of "Somebody That I Used To Know" sounded '80s-ish.
In general, I'm definitely in disbelief over the fact that all of these songs will be turning 10 years old this year, but to a point, I can also believe it too. Many of the electropop songs that came out back then sound noticeably dated now, especially anything by the likes of LMFAO. A song like "Party Rock Anthem" simply wouldn't cut it in 2021, the bright, neon clothing and party-lyrics just seem like they're from a completely different time. I honestly can't say I miss 2011 all that much or the vast majority of these songs for that matter. The early 2010s still feel loosely connected with the world of today, they're not outright dated in the same way that the late 2000s were during 2017-2019. Don't get me wrong, there are aspects of the early 2010s which I do like and i'm starting to appreciate them more and more as each year passes. However, they aren't quite removed enough from the world of today for me to truly have any nostalgia over the songs or for me to wish that I could re-live the era.

My favorite song’s released in 2011~ We Found Love by Rihanna, SuperBass by Nikki Minaj, Last Friday Night by Katy Perry, Mr SaxoBeat by Alexandra Stan, You Make Me Feel So La La La by Cobra Starship, Give Me Everything by Pitbull.
I think 2011 is definitely the best Early 2010’s year in music, it reminds me a lot of my 2011-2012 school year. The downside is 2011 was ruined for me when I was 10 because for some reason my dad refused to pay rent for our house, and we were then forced to move into my ex-step aunt’s house which wasn’t in the best condition. I was miserable most of the time, and her nephews kinda bullied me. I’m the most nostalgic for 2011 as far as music in any year of the Early 2010’s goes, but other than that my personal life was pretty shitty that year. I do miss some of my old friends from the 2010-2011 school year.

I can't believe 2011 is already 10 years old. These hit songs are major components of my childhood. This year kinda makes me miss artists like Adele, Kesha, and Rihanna ruling the Billboard charts lol.

It's crazy to me to think the big Adele hits are a decade plus now.

Your resident Hip Hop Head reporting to duty...
And this song... Which is often pointed out as the origins of the mumble rap wave which took over the 2010s, apparently as an accident, as the artist was high when he recorded it and didn't even mean to sound mumbled.

I often see 2011 get overlooked by 2010 or 2012. It needs more appreciation.
