2012 and 2017 are both very representative of the early and late parts of the 10s respectively, although they are not considered the “peak” years of their respective eras by most. Which year has more quintessential 2010s trends?

If 2012 has Yolo, it's 2012. 2017 is a sick contender tho.

I would go with 2017:
* "Binge-watching" culture was a thing * It was the one year the two US Presidents of the 2010s were in office. * Mumble-rap really took off in popularity by 2017, but EDM and indie-pop were also on the charts. * Arguably the only year of the 2010s that had youth culture targeted towards both Millennials and Gen Z (although it was heavily leaning Z by then). * Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter etc. were all popular.

2012 was stereotypical of the Obama Era '10s, while 2017 was stereotypical of the Trump Era '10s.
Between the two, I'd say 2012, only because most of the '10s was part of the Obama Era (2009-2016).

To me, 2016 was the the most stereotypical 10s year, so since 2017 is closer to 2016 than 2012, I'll have to say 2017.
Well, actually, the Early 2010s (2010 to 2012/13-ish) were pretty unique, while the Mid to Late 2010s kind of blend in a bit. So it's actually more like 2016 was the most stereotypical Mid/Late 10s year, while IMO 2012 itself was the most stereotypical Early 10s year.
But since the Mid to Late 10s (2013/14-ish to 2019) takes up more of the decade, it's still 2016 to me
Talking about pop culture btw. In terms of politics, the Mid 2010s relate more to the Early 2010s by far.

Definitely 2017 IMO. SharksFan99 pretty much took the words out of my mouth.

Short answer: 2017. SharksFan99 hit the nail on the head with that like rainbow said. 2012 is a good choice tho.

Yeah it's impossible for me to pick for this very reason. The difference between the Obama years and the Trump years is like day and night, but neither can claim to be "more" stereotypically 2010s than the other - they just represent opposite sides of the same coin.
