I just watched we summon the darkness at a movie theater the other day and it is a horror movie set in 1988 but it really doesn’t feel like it all. Most of actors dress like 2003ish with minimal effort to be 80s. You can tell the faded skin tight jeans were made recently among other things like modern faded t shirts and flat stringy 2000s/2010s hair etc
Other movies that come to mind are the wedding singer and Sid and Nancy they don’t feel like movies made during the time they are trying to capture.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Love the movie but it’s hard to believe it takes place in 1992. The characters just seem like early 2010s hipsters, especially since they’re into old music

Better Call Saul, a Breaking Bad prequel that is supposed to take place from like 2002 to 2005 (give or take) between its first and fifth season.
The problem is that it first aired in 2015 and is set to end in 2021, so things like dialogue (Saul says something about "clout" in Season 1), fashion (again, Saul, is wearing skinny jeans at some point), technology (flatscreen computer monitors in what's supposedly 2002, and at some point I think a character is using a 2008-era slider phone too), vehicles (late 2000s and 2010s vehicles not only accidentally caught in the background but sometimes shown front and center.), and even music (obvious modern rap, indie-pop, EDM [!!!] are all played at some point, this one is glaring to me since it would be very easy to use era-appropriate music instead.) are way too recent for the time the show is supposed to take place in.
Even then, it's still a good show, and I'd recommend it to Breaking Bad fans.

Dallas Buyers Club bugged me when they were trying depict 1986 with late 90s and 00s black and silver plastic TVs. When in reality many people were still watching TVs that had knobs or the type that have a row of buttons to change channels in faux wood grain cases they bought years earlier.
This is a tv someone in 1986 would have likely been watching

"13 Going on 30" has a hilariously bad recreation of 1987.
Now that I think of it, if that movie was made today the past would have to be the year that movie came out!

As for series the Goldbergs comes to mind. That 80s show is mostly fine but some of it is questionable.
SLC punk isn’t bad some of it is a bit 90s but it mostly works.

Might not seem that noticeable or important, but I think a lot of movies set before the 1960s that depict people using words such as fuck or shit in everyday language is not very accurate to history, since such words didn’t become common until profanity became normalised during the counterculture of the 60s.

LADY BIRD (came out in 2016 ish takes place in 2002)
this movie gets ton of hate on IMDB so many things wrong lol Uses Dave Matthews band Crash from 1996 in a movie about 2002. Movie has a scene where everyone goes thrifting (no one was thrifting in 2002) cars on the road from 2004 (yet movie takes place in 2002) People walking around with man buns and hipster mustaches.
Here are some more
www.imdb.com/title/tt4925292/goofs/?tab=gf&ref_=tt_trv_gf
-when they introduce the character Jenna Walton, she is shown next to a Range Rover. The model shown did not come out until 2004, two years into the future. - When Lady Bird is in her brother's room, the PC shows Windows 7 background and taskbar. The scene takes place in 2002 but Windows 7 was released in 2009, seven years in the future.

How did they mess it up that bad? Seems like Hollywood is losing its standards. Whenever screw up these movies they also tend to mess up the way the actors carry themselves. People talked in a certain way in 1985 or 2002 or any year. Whenever they use new lingo or reflect a 2010s attitude or vibe in the characters in some way it also really pisses me off.

I was so disgusted with this movie TBH...... LOL there are many scenes and they are wearing 2017 looking clothing ( high waisted jeans, those cobain sunglasses), there is even a blu ray player in one scene LMAOOO they didn't even bother to hide it. The whole vibe and tone of this movie is very 2010s, just the way they talk and everything, they got nothing right at all. No one acted like this in 2001,2002, 2003. Like when you watch the scenes the dialogue is how someone would act in 2016. The whole movie has a mid 2010s hipster vibe to it. Like how is this the soundtrack to the movie ? How does this resonate with 2002 ? lmao A 1996 song.
