In 2019, Drake suffered backlash because of a 2010 video of him kissing & fondling a 17 year old girl on stage. To be fair, that is completely fucking creepy. I am not a fan of cancel culture myself, but I think its impact on society is waaay overblown and over-exaggerated. My life has not personally been made worse by the fact that other people aren't buying Marilyn Manson CDs anymore. Sure it won’t matter to non fans but it’s not about much whether you like him or not or anything else. It’s the possibility of canceling someone to such a drastic degree based on allegations and before trials have been put forth and the possibilities of similar reactions for past and present artists, musicians, actors etc I would find it equally or even more disturbing if they cancelled Pink Floyd because they used fascist imagery or posturing ironically on one of their albums 40 years ago for example or let’s say one of the remembers “allegedly” slept with a 17 teen year ago in the 1970s or whatever. This could also apply to art and history or anything really. There could be a point with the way things are going where music will be canceled, harder to get or as crazy as it sounds made illegal at some point. I think what we are seeing now, unless better regulated at some point could be dangerous especially when a certain amount of people are liars or incentivized in some way to change the truth.

Now you’re just being silly. No one is going to outlaw music. And I for one do believe that if there are serious sexual misconduct allegations against an artist, we do need to take them seriously. Manson’s ex-wife came to his defense, so clearly mere accusations are not the end.

Maybe not so much technically outlaw as almost permanently cut off on some mainstream level or tarnish the name, yes not only issues surrounding sexual misconduct with rockstars but a number of things which be may ridiculous or pc extremism. Probably not now but at some point the future, never know, considering the way things are headed. Yeah I’m all for looking at both sides, would hate for anyone to have suffered if this was the case but into not rushing to conclusions where labels instantly drop the artist the second the allegations come out and people get demonized and destroyed beyond belief before a fair trial/investigation, when there is chance they could be innocent, is what I’m saying. Hopefully this doesn’t become the norm, more than it currently is, and get out of hand as there doesn’t seem to be anything stopping it. Hopefully someone will create something or enforce a new law someday to better deal with these things for all sides.
