In today's divisive political climate, one particular issue of which has certainly become a hot topic as of late are gender issues, with the mainstream left particularly pushing for gender equality and gender fluidity, as well as rights and protections for homosexuals and transgender people, and with the right particularly advocating for "traditional gender roles", that men need to emulate a specific archetype of "masculinity", and that women need to emulate a specific archetype of "femininity".
However, I would argue that most people on both sides don't truly understand what "masculinity" and "femininity" actually mean, especially when regarding the former.
Too many are caught up in the notion that masculinity specifically refers to strength and dominance. Wrong. Masculinity is actually an energy of wisdom deriving from love, and femininity is the exact opposite (an energy of love deriving from wisdom). The masculine mind is primarily dominated by the left-hemisphere of the brain, which is where wisdom, strategy, analysis, logic, and memory are based, whereas the feminine mind is primarily dominated by the right-hemisphere of the brain, which is where love, emotion, imagination, creativity, and intuition are based. Masculinity is primarily about "putting out", trying to change or influencing the world in some way. Strength and dominance are certainly a common method of this "putting out", however so are science, philosophy, and art, a Bob Ross or Niel DeGrasse Tyson kind of man is just as masculine as a Dwayne Johnson or Rob Gronkowski kind of man. On the flipside, femininity is primarily about "soaking in", about going with the flow and understanding the good and bad in everything. Hormones also play a major factor in this regard, as the male body generally produces doses of testosterone as they develop, while the female body generally produces doses of estrogen as they develop.
That being said, both the masculine and feminine do need to cooperate with each other harmoniously to keep each other in check and balance, and furthermore, both genders should keep both hemispheres in check to make sure that neither hemisphere becomes too dominant. I'll touch more on this in a later paragraph.
Now I'm going to shift gears a bit towards homosexuality and transgenderism. Now, since I'm not gay nor transgender myself, I don't know the full story on what causes specific individuals to be gay or transgender, so I apologize in advance if I offend anyone in this paragraph, as this is not my intention. What I do know though is that in many instances, many males do not produce the recommended doses of testosterone as they develop, and many females do not produce the recommended doses of estrogen as they develop. In many cases, males may produce estrogen instead, and females may produce testosterone instead. Plus, there's scientific studies of the mother's womb washing a male fetus in estrogen if she had multiple boys beforehand, which is why boys with multiple older brothers are often gay or transgender. Plus, it's also possible for cis girls to be born with Y chromosomes despite also being born with female genitalia, so even the chromosome argument (XX for female, XY for male) is also fallacious.
There are indeed scientific explanations of which cause certain people to be homosexual or transgender, and claiming that these individuals are just being over-emotional or just suffering from gender-dysphoria is not only bigoted and prideful, but it's also counter-productive and shows that you're too lazy to want to try to actually solve the problem and thereby just decide to scapegoat these individuals as a cop-out. Homosexuality and transgenderism are real and scientific, and these individuals do need to be accepted with compassion and respect, and these issues do need to be dealt with in a way which isn't mentally harmful.
Next, I'm going to shift gears towards toxic masculinity, a term of which I feel is heavily misunderstood. "Toxic" is not an adjective, it's a modifier, the term "toxic masculinity" doesn't refer to masculinity as a whole, but a specific kind of masculinity. Not only that, but the term was first coined by men's rights activists, not by feminists. Toxic masculinity specifically refers to when the left hemisphere of the brain becomes overly-dominant and the right hemisphere becomes disposable, it is this imbalance which creates behaviors such as aggression, lack of empathy, emotional suppression, as well as oppression, tyranny, and genocide if the male in question is in a position of power. This is not only unethical for those who are oppressed by this method of masculinity, but it is also mentally unhealthy for the male in question, as it involves an unnatural balance of both hemispheres of the brain. In the spiritual sense, toxic masculinity is sinful masculinity, in fact Cain and Abel in the book of Genesis are correspondences to toxic masculinity, Cain is correspondent of the left hemisphere of the brain while Abel is correspondent of the right hemisphere of the brain, and Cain slaying Abel is correspondent to the left hemisphere of the brain "slaying" the right hemisphere of the brain.
However, just as masculinity can be toxic, so can femininity as well, the right hemisphere having total domination over the left hemisphere can just as well lead to a "stand for nothing, fall for everything" situation, and often leads women to sitting by idly as men commit evil, even if this includes the woman being the victim of an abusive relationship. The right hemisphere of the masculine mind needs to be a check-and-balance for the left hemisphere of the masculine mind, and the left hemisphere of the feminine mind needs to be a check-and-balance for the right hemisphere of the feminine mind.
It is frustrating that oftentimes, the ones promoting these harmful gender norms and stereotypes are Christians, and it's also frustrating that these Christians are also oftentimes fetishising oppressive pagan cultures such as the Vikings and Greeks as well, really this is just white supremacy using Christianity as a cloak. They'll point to Old Testament stories of heroism to back up their model of Christianity supporting these oppressive gender norms, not realizing that the Bible also contains a historical text of the history of Israel just as it does a spiritual text for all of humanity, and war and violence were simply a way of life in those times for imperfect men due to the low spiritual state of society in those times as well as how rampant death was due to starvation and disease. If we take a look at Jesus Christ, the prime role model for all Christians, especially for Christian men, we can see that these oppressive gender roles are in fact not supported.
The shortest Bible verse;
John 11:35 - Jesus wept
Jesus wept. This verse is specifically in reference that Jesus cried for Lazarus, the brother of Mary. Jesus wept. Jesus cried. Jesus Christ, the ultimate role model for all Christian men, the only man in the history of the world of which Christian men should emulate, showed his emotions. Furthermore, Jesus taught about turning the other cheek and taking up one's cross instead of asserting dominance. Jesus also respected women and cared for the downtrodden as well, and he also required that all praise and worship should be reserved for God and not for man. Yes, he also cleared out a temple with a whip of cords, but that was a calculated move and a slap on the wrist, he didn't seek to actively cause destructive bodily harm to those people in the temple. Furthermore;
Matthew 5:29 - And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
The right eye is a correspondence to the left hemisphere of the brain, as the left hemisphere of the brain controls the right side of the body, and the right hemisphere of the brain controls the left side of the body.
Jesus was very much against toxic masculinity, and it's made clear that toxic masculinity is not only unethical, but it's also sinful. What Jesus embodied was spiritual masculinity, healthy masculinity. Jesus was still "putting out" into the world and sought to change and influence the world, and was even stern and strict when he needed to be and even talked about hell multiple times (if you have anxiety over hell, please check out Swedenborg's "Heaven and Hell" and Howard Storm's "My Descent Into Death), but he still expressed his emotions, showed compassion and empathy, cared for the downtrodden, respected women, and reserved praise and worship only for God and not for man. If we all as men looked up only to Jesus Christ as our role model, and stopped looking up to entertainers and frauds such as John Wayne, Sean Connery, or Jordan Peterson as role models, and stopped fetishing oppressive historical cultures of which we only have carnal knowledge of in the first place, we would reach the healthy balance of masculinity and femininity, the healthy balance of the left and right hemisphere of the brain, needed to help bring haven down to earth.
Moral of the story, keep both of your brain hemispheres in check. If you're a male, or a biological female with a masculine mind, keep the left hemisphere of your brain in check with your right hemisphere. Also, if you're a female, or a biological male with a feminine mind, keep the right hemisphere of your brain in check with the left hemisphere. If you're a man, do not be afraid to show your emotions or to show empathy and compassion for others, and if you're a woman, don't be afraid to take a stand and take action against injustice wherever possible. Furthermore, use both of your hemispheres for good, and not for evil.
