Inspired by the topic about years in the 2000s. Yes, I'm aware there is a topic for years in the 2010s, but it didn't have a poll so it was just people listing years 1 to 10 from worst to best with no real input.
My vote is 2017. - first year of Trump in office. - everything just had this really edgy vibe unlike 2016 or 2018. (2016 didn't have a dark vibe until later in the year, and 2018 literally just felt like a less edgy version of 2017 with better music.)

I agree 2017 is the worst. 2016 and 2018 were much better years in every way.

I found 2019 2 be lit & fun outta all the 2010s years. I believe 2019 was better than 2010-2018.

2017 and 2018 were kind of boring with 2018 being more boring lol I agree with either one I feel like 2016 was very very stale. I can’t think of anything sticks out other than trump, ghostbusters being horrible and Pokémon go. 2019 was probably the stalest year in the decade it was like a watered down version of 2018 with nothing really new or distinct happening at all. If 2016 and 2019 were a s**t sandwich 2017 and 2018 was the middle. Ironically I don’t mind 2017 and 2018 despite a lot of bad things, it just felt there was more going on.

Anything after 2016 was the worst, the early 2010s was the best era gen z probably well ever have.

2016 was when the negative side effects to a smartphone and social media-dominated world really began to show themselves IMO. The rot had set in. Do any of you remember that clown mask fad? The craze where people disguised themselves using clown masks and went around to people's homes during the middle of the night to stab others? Also, 2016 was arguably the first year where the progressive culture of the 2010s started to become toxic. The Ghostbusters reboot was only made to cater for the SJW-crowd who were pandering Hollywood to produce an all-female line-up in a huge Hollywood blockbuster. It's not that i'm opposed to gender equality. However, its quite clear that the movie served no other purpose than to appease a certain community on Twitter and it definitely wouldn't have ever been produced had it not been for far-left people on social media. It didn't sit well with me.
There's a lot to dislike about 2016. Music wise, the only thing I personally liked about it was Green Day's Revolution Radio album, which my friend and I played to death when it came out. The Top-40 at the time was dominated by EDM (which had become very long in the tooth by then) and there was unfortunately little to nothing else on the charts. I can see the appeal in Pokemon Go, however it never took my interest. It was kind of trivial for a short while to see people of all ages brought closer together by a new app that captivated everyone. I can remember thinking at the time that it was a perfect example of people being 'sheep'; that everyone was doing the exact same thing and was participating in something that had little substance. Politics was one huge shamozzle. Here in Australia, we had our fourth Prime Minister in just 3 years, and both sides of politics were seemingly backstabbing each other every few months. Trump was building momentum and politics in general had become very polarised. Deadpool was the only film from 2016 which I outright enjoyed. It was one of the weakest years for cinema of the 2010s.
All in all, despite it having been a relatively decent year for me personally, I think of 2016 as having been a very toxic and stagnant year for pop culture as a whole.

My pick would be 2014. Besides Frozen-mania and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge (which eventually devolved to just the Ice Bucket Challenge), I just never really liked most of the music that year, (e.g., Iggy Azalea and Meghan Trainor, ughhhhh), and the pop culture was pretty stagnant compared to 2013 or even 2015.

2015 deserves a vote. I’ll change my vote from 2017 to 2015. 2015 was stale. Mid 2010s culture was fresh, new, cutting-edge and exciting from 2013-first half of 2015. It got watered down, boring, lame and long in the tooth in the second half of 2015. You saw signs staleness creeping in as early as winter 2014 going into 2015 with blander fashion first making appearances and super soulless hits like uptown funk that sound like corny forgettable tracks that came out in 1999-2000.

1.2016 trump election + dumbed down toxic culture + decline of liberalism + pop culture stale 2.2017 - Same as above but slightly worse politically but slightly better pop culture 3.2019 - No real turning points - a faded version of 2018 4.Most of 2015 - establishment of fake, excessive side of core 2010s culture 5.2018 - A bit more chilled out but lacking new character

Fair enough. Winter 2014/2015 showed signs of staleness. Imo 2015 was a boring 2014 with less early 2010s influences similar to how 2005 was a boring 2004 with less early 2000s influences. Anyways it’s funny you mention 1999-2000 because people see 2014-2015 as peak teen poop music years. 2005 was not boring loll prob the 1 Summer of all time of the 2000s lol, I agree with you that 2015 was very boring. 2015 honestly is the most boring year of the 2010s. TRASH CAN status.

It was a worse dark version of 2016. 2018 and 2019 were much more vibrant than any year between 2014 and 2017 though IMO.
