It was gaining attention, but it wasn't anywhere near as popular as it would later become. We all still used MySpace, and the internet still had a Wild West vibe. By 2009, Facebook became the biggest social media platform. This is also when bullshit like Farmville and VEVO started. So I do think the internet started going downhill in 2009. I think 2008 was still a great year for the internet, but Facebook was starting to really catch on, and Fred (who I hated) blew up in popularity. 2007 still had that edgy MySpace/Newgrounds kinda vibe. Which I miss. it was the #3 in the pecking order of most "social" websites with 1 being Myspace 2 being Youtube and 3 being Facebook. The Internet in general got more users as every year of the 2000s went by so thats not really a fair assessment of it. In the internet age we were in for 2000s standards in 2007,Facbook was mega popular. Like I said before, Steve Jobs showed a demo of Facebook working on a Iphone in the January 2007 keynote, that should show u how much buzz this website had, also Obama shouted out Facebook several times during his late 07 campaign speeches. Also I do remember TRL and 106 & Park shouting out the their respective Facebook pages during this time. It's just like comparing Myspace in 2005 to Tik Tok in 2022, you really can't and Tik Tok is obv going to have more users due to everyone having the internet. Back in 07 not everyone still used it. A good huge majority did, but not everyone. 2009 is def when the internet started losing it's luster a bit, I was not happy with some of the changes I saw. I understand. But 2007 is still my favorite, because of all the Flash games and animations that came out plus early YouTube. And all the weird and creative MySpace pages.

Don't forget Youtube was starting to be shouted out a ton in tv during the 06-07 year, like if you ran a company @ the time you had to include the word Youtube LOL I remember when E!'s The Soup always played clips from youtube around this time, esp LonleyGurls video vlogs.

Yup. YouTube was really taking off. You had all these people making videos. It had a Wild West feel. I think 2005-2008 was really old-school Wild West YouTube.

But it just made the networks seem slow and left behind lol

Like when Nickelodeon made a TV show about FRED and Ryan's Toy Reviews, or Cartoon Network made a show about Annoying Orange.

For a well balanced old school classic internet year, 2003 seems like a pretty good year, the internet felt the richest and the best for the web 1.0 era, largely because it was closer to the end of it, with an abundance of sites (video sites, file sharing options, personal homepages, webstores, message boards, very early social options).
For modern internet 2008 was a bit more developed than 04/2005-2007 and kind of like a more finished version of the internet during those years, in terms of youtube, social media, web content and video/music content generally speaking and it felt more balanced in terms of what as on there.

I think 2005-2008 as a time frame is all great.
