Dark? The 2000's was still futuristic in a sense because it was the first time social media and smartphones came into existence, I say this because now everyone wants to go back to a time before all this advanced tech and it isn't even because of nostalgia, despite nostalgia being a major force in 2010's culture.

Oh and Chris Beniot killed himself and family. It was def dark.

And also not to sound mean or anything but i don't really use world problems that happened in the 90s and 2000s to generalize the whole decade, i would understand if it was before the 80s because of segregation and slavery. in the 2000s there was 9/11 but that didn't stop cartoon network from making godly cartoons that we all would live, it didn't stop game companies from making iconic games that we love to this day. and also that really didn't stop kids from going outside to. nowadays we have violent stuff that is happening around the world to, and don't forget about corona, but somehow instead of having strong people we have people who cancel everything that gets there pussy wet, and also cartoon network is making lgbt cartoons that is legit indoctrinating kids which is why a lot of teens and middle schoolers don't even know there own gender. and lets not forget how 97 percent of average teenagers now don't go outside, there inside there houses all day beating there meat to porn. i could go on about how shitty my generation dude because this isn't even the half of it

That era was dark and mystique feel to it. Even as a kid, I noticed it.

Electronics were dark as well ( ps3) ( iphone 1 ) and if they weren't they had the wii white color scheme like apple macbooks and I home entertainment systems. User interfaces were black as well such as Windows Vista.

I think John Titor meant "dark" as in the popularity of dark colours during that time, likely due to the influence of emo.

I never really experienced much of that generation but i would say that it looks like it was better then what we have now, the windows UI had some personality and stood out, unlike now because nowadays everything is 2D and generic. and the music was better to, they use to have edm, rock, and rap music, nowadays all people listen to is either trap music or what tik tok tells them to listen to. and the only movie that is good now are marvel movies, comedy movies now is just a chad person doing some chad dude doing something dumb. most communities now are just straight cancer as fuck. everyone now is a walking trend in my opinion and as a15 year old that is going through this generation, i can confirm that beside of personal life this era of time was better. i think right now we are going through a darker digital era that you claimed we want through I definitely get what you're saying. That's exactly how I have always felt about the '90s tbh. To me, they seemed to have been better than the 2000s and 2010s in almost every way, and its frustrating that I only got to experience the last 9 or so months of it as a baby. Since you're 15, you would have been born in 2006 i'm guessing? It's a shame that you weren't old enough to properly experience the late 2000s since you like them so much, but hey, at least you weren't born during the early 2010s. Imagine how some of them must feel about missing out on them and only having memories of the mid-late 2010s. At least you're 15, you have memories of an era which people younger than you wished they could have had. Welcome to the forum by the way!

Mid 2006-October 2006 transitioned from the mid 2000s or pure core 2000s into the Dark and Digital Era also known as the cultural late 2000s. The Dark and Digital Era ranged from November 2006-September 2008 with 2007 rightfully being the peak. October 2008-September 2009 transitioned out of that into the ElectroPop era.
I found the Dark and Digital Era boring, unpleasant, unenjoyable and disappointing compared to the mid 2000s. It felt like a watered down mid 2000s culture, a precursor and foreshadowing to the ElectroPop era of the cultural early 2010s.
