Early to mid 1990s. Mid 1980s to late 80s to some extent.

The 2010s. Two of the biggest shows of the 2010s (The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones) were literally based around zombie attacks and brutal, medieval-style killings. CGI has become so realistic that the line between what is fake and what isn't is now really thin, hence, gruesome violence is now more "life-like" than ever before. Towards the end of the decade, a style of rap-music that had suicidal, misogynistic lyrics took over the charts and influenced the aesthetics of pop culture. Also, the presence of social media has meant that young kids and the greater public at large are now so easily exposed to dangerous content, such as the "clown-face" fad of 2016 and creepypastas.
