As it's the also the first week of Mid 2021, I think it's kinda cool to compare the top 5 songs in the Billboard Hot 100 right to the past five years...
First week of May, 2021 • Polo G – Rapstar • Silk Sonic ft. Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak – Leave The Door Open • Justin Bieber ft. Daniel Caesar & Given – Peaches • Lil Nas X – Montero (Call Me By Your Name) • Dua Lipa ft. DaBaby – Levitating
First week of May, 2020 • The Weeknd – Blinding Lights • Drake – Toosie Slide • Roddy Ricch – The Box • Dua Lipa – Don’t Start Now • Doja Cat – Say So
First week of May, 2019
• Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus – Old Town Road (Remix) • Post Malone – Wow. • Post Malone ft. Swae Lee – Sunflower • Ariana Grande – 7 Rings • Jonas Brothers – Sucker
First week of May, 2018
• Drake – Nice for What • Drake – God’s Plan • Ariana Grande – No Tears Left To Cry • Babe Rexha ft. Georgia Florida Line – Meant to Be • Post Malone ft. Ty Dolla $ign – Psycho
First week of May, 2017
• Kendrick Lamar – Humble. • Ed Sheeran – Shape of You • Bruno Mars – That’s What I Like • Kendrick Lamar – DNA. • Future – Mask Off
First week of May, 2016 • Desiigner – Panda • Lukas Graham – 7 Years • Drake ft. WizKid & Kyla – One Dance • Rihanna ft. Drake – Work • Mike Posner – I Took A Pill In Ibiza I think my favorite of the past five years is 2020, followed by 2021 (the only good thing I could say about these couple years, lol). Let me know what your favorite set of songs are.

The Top-5 from May 2020 is the best out of what is otherwise a bad lot, IMO.
I think these chart listings are actually a pretty good example of why the current methodology in determining Top-40 charts is flawed. Many of those songs were within the Top-5 for up to several months, "God's Plan" topped the UK Singles Chart for 11 consecutive weeks if i'm not mistaken. The way in which radio airplay is weighted over streaming needs to be adjusted.

2017 is my personal favorite. Except for Shape of You, I like all of these songs. I'm a big Kendrick fan, so that helps. Least favorite? 2016. It's the polar opposite. I hate all of the songs, including Future ripoff Desiigner, and that bland AC hit 7 Years. Work was overplayed and feels like a Chainsmokers song.
