In terms of the pop culture and society at large, would you consider the late 2010s to have been a conservative or progressive era overall?
They're a bizarre era to look back on, in retrospect. On one hand, the #MeToo and "cancel culture" movements spearheaded a greater emphasis on gender and racial equality, but on the other hand, the western world dramatically shifted towards right-wing ideologies.
I would personally lean more towards them as having been conservative. What is your opinion of them?

The rise of right-wing authoritarians around the world tilts me toward "conservative." Progressive culture was the counterculture, whereas the alt-right rapidly became the mainstream culture, much to civilized folks' chagrin.

The 2010s as a whole were arguably progressive, but it was definitely the counterculture during the last few years of the decade.

I would personally lean more towards them as having been conservative. What is your opinion of them? Conservative. In the USA, the entire era was a fundamentalist Christian backlash against Obergefell vs. Hodges, the SCOTUS decision that legalized same-sex marriage. There were other factors but it was the legalization of same-sex marriage that really made conditions in America ripe for rejection of democracy and support of sectarian totalitarianism. It was that which was the catalyst for bringing religious fundamentalists and white supremacists together under one cause. Unfortunately, the USA isn't out of the woods yet and there is still the chance this ultimately ends up destroying democracy and bringing about a dictator. I'm worried that Biden's election simply delayed the inevitable another four years. Most of the world doesn't understand the narrative really drives American evangelical Christians and how far they are willing to go to restore what they believe is God's order in society. The 2024 election is going to be scary.

I’m pretty sure it was the election of Obama and the formation of Black Lives Matter that set it all off.
