This is just for fun. Comment which decade you think embodies these qualities:
Most light-hearted decade Darkest decade (pop culturally) Most experimental/weird decade Favorite decade Least favorite decade
I'll start: Most light-hearted (1960s - the 50s were pretty light-hearted too, but you can't go wrong with an era that gave us the 1966 Batman show, The Brady Bunch, and Beatles songs like All You Need is Love, hippies were fucking softies LMAO) Darkest (2000s - emo, torture porn movies, extremely violent video games like Manhunt, angsty characters like Shadow the Hedgehog, even cartoons like Billy and Mandy and Invader Zim were dark) Most experimental/weird decade (1970s - Some would say the 60s, but IMO only the late 60s really qualifies. The 70s was OBSESSED with experimentation and absurdism. Movies were very weird, like Godzilla vs Hedorah, Eraserhead, and of course, the king of absurdist comedy, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. We also had the rise of progressive rock, quite possibly the most experimental genre to ever arrive in the mainstream, as well as some experimental funk and post-punk records) Favorite (1990s - In terms of pop culture and tech, easily. The tech balance is perfect. No toxic social media, but you DID have the internet to communicate with others. Fantastic movies, a nice blend of 2D/3D animation, and great music. No microtransactions or DLC either. IMO, the Y2K era in particular is my absolute favorite micro-era, with the perfect blend of everything, including more diverse music (teen pop, nu metal, Eurodance, trance, big beat, R&B, hardcore hip hop, party rap) Least favorite (1910s - For every 20th century decade, I can think of positive things to say. With the 30s, as shitty as the world was with the Great Depression and rise of Hitler, it at least had fantastic culture like swing music, classic Hollywood and cartoons, as well as one of our greatest presidents in Franklin D. Roosevelt, even the 1900s had important technological innovation with the Wright Brothers, as well as Theodore Roosevelt. The 1910s? MY GOD. I hate everything about this worthless decade. A horrible disgusting war (World War I with trench foot...UGH), a pandemic even worse than COVID (Spanish Flu) that killed millions around the world, and with even more disobedient people, and one of the worst and most racist presidents of all time: Woodrow Wilson. This decade doesn't even have good culture like the 1930s. Film was in its infancy, and jazz wasn't really a thing. Ragtime was well past its 1900s prime, and the best classical artists had already emerged. The 1910s are just a worthless, awful decade that was bad in everything and bad for everyone. There wasn't even that post-war celebration like with World War II because now we had to deal with an awful pandemic.)

This is fun. Here's my pov.
- Most Light-Hearted Decade: The 1950s (1980s is 2nd). The Pop Culture of the 50s was very wholesome in every aspect possible and very PC (Probably more strict than now).
- Darkest Decade: I wanna say either the 2000s or the 2010s. There both had equal amount of violent-ness to it.
- Most Experimental: The Later 1960s aka 1965-1969 (1970s and 1980s are not that far behind.). This was around the time period where there was a big amount of change in the world. And some of the most questionable trends in history happens to be around this time period.
- Favorite Decade: The 1970s: Despite a lot of crazy news that happened in the 70s, I love everything about the 1970s. From the movies, music, shows, aesthetic, the fashions, fonts even the architectures. Love the pop culture. 1920s, 1990s and the 2000s are my favs too.
- Least Favorite: The 1930s and so far the 2020s. The 1930s seems to be a scary time for the world. With the economy at its worse. 2020s because of everything.

Pandemic, bad economy, bad video games, etc.

Most light-hearted: 1960's
Darkest Decade: 1990's
Most experimental: 1960's
Favourite Decade: 1990's
Least Favourite Decade: 1950's
The '60s may have been a hugely transformative decade for society, but so much of the pop culture from back then was a lot of cheesy fun, like "The Twist" fad, surf-rock, The Monkees etc. Even in a year as tumultuous as 1969, a sweet, bubblegum-pop song like "Sugar, Sugar" managed to top the charts globally and stay at #1 for a ridiculous number of weeks. For the darkest decade, it was a toss-up between the '70s and the '90s, but I went with the latter due to topics like self-harm, suicide etc. being brought to the forefront of music (due to the popularity of alt-rock), for example. In terms of eras, I actually believe the entire second-half of the 2010s was far darker than both decades, but it wouldn't be a fitting description of 2010-2015 (which is why I haven't referred to the 2010s as the "darkest").
The most experimental decade was undoubtedly the 1960s, so I won't go into much more detail about it. My favourite decade of all-time is the 1990s; as someone born in '99, it feels like a real kick in the teeth that I was only a baby during the decade I love so much. As for my least favourite decade (at least out of the post-WWII ones), it's the 1950s. I like the Looney Tunes shorts from the decade, but the other aspects of the decade don't appeal to me much at all.

I like the Looney Tunes shorts from the decade, but the other aspects of the decade don't appeal to me much at all. Let's not forget about how the 60s had The Brady Bunch, possibly the cheesiest, most wholesome show ever. The reason I say the 2000s is the darkest is because of the sheer darkness of so much media from back then especially movies and TV. Revenge of the Sith and Shadow the Hedgehog are literally considered the darkest installments of their respective franchises. Even kid culture was dark with stuff like Billy and Mandy, Monster House. Don't even get me started on emo, post-grunge, and nu metal. With the 70s and 90s, at least they had more lighthearted media to balance it out. You literally had songs like "You're My Best Friend" and "Mr Blue Sky" from the 70s (although they're from the disco 1976-1978 era, which is VERY lighthearted in general), and plus The Brady Bunch ran mostly in the 70s despite originating in the 60s. The 90s had Jim Carrey and Robin Williams movies, and the late 90s in particular had tons of teen pop and Eurodance. The 2000s was pretty much dark through and through with even the most popular movies having a dark and pessimistic tone. Again, see Revenge of the Sith, or depressing songs like Fix You and How to Save a Life. I'll admit the very late 2000s after Obama's election was a bit more lighthearted especially with the start of the electropop era and artists like Owl City with songs like Fireflies, but still, the 2000s as a whole just seems dark and gritty, even if it was still escapist. My least favorite post-war decade is the 2010s due to way too many reboots and the rise of awful cancel culture, though I don't really like the 50s either. McCarthyism was pretty much the right-wing equivalent to cancel culture, and I despise the conformist nature of the decade. You weren't allowed to rebel. At least the 60s changed that with the counter-culture.

But 1969 is still during the height of the counter-culture era, which is associated with the 60s

Alright, here's some more: Most liberal decade (1930s - FDR's reforms are still considered incredibly important to this very day, and even supposed conservative Herbert Hoover helped lay the groundwork for the 30s economic reforms) Most conservative decade (1980s - A tie between this and the 50s, but the 80s was notorious for its pro-American and neo-liberal attitude toward pretty much everything, plus its pro-business climate) Most apolitical decade (1990s - Very little political media here. IMO the 90s is the decade of pure escapism. Even the 2000s had tons of anti-Bush centric media and political satire, as well as Christian and pro-American propaganda like Passion of the Christ and Pearl Harbor.)

Most kid-friendly decade - 1990s (the whole decade had a child-friendly atmosphere to it. Nickelodeon, Disney Renaissance, Cartoon Network, Gak, kid toys, toy stores in their absolute prime, the Wonka Pomo aesthetic, awesome video games. Even movies geared toward older audiences like Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura still felt child-friendly) Least kid-friendly decade - 1940s (do I HAVE to explain why? Not just the War, no kid-oriented channels, no Saturday morning cartoons, no Toys R Us, we were at war, and the news was full of awful things on TV)

That's where the Silent Generation gets their name from: growing up with virtually no happy childhood.
