IMO these are the different eras of trap... 2010-2013 (Waka Flocka Flame, Roscoe Dash, Future, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, 2Chainz, etc.) 2013-2016 (Rich Homie Quan, Young Thug, Fetty Wap, Desiigner, Rae Sremmurd, etc.) 2016-2018 (Lil Yachty, 6ix9ine, Lil Pump, XXXTentacion, Juice WRLD, Travis Scott, etc.) 2019-now (Lil Baby, DaBaby, Polo G, Rod Wave, Roddy Ricch, Megan Thee Stallion, etc.) Obviously some artists like Drake, Future, Migos, Travis Scott, etc. have hits that go beyond these eras, but they adapt to the new era's sound. This is pretty close, but I'd say it's more like this: 2006-2011 2011-2016 2016-now In my opinion, hip-hop evolved a lot more slowly in the 2010s than pop did and hasn't really changed that much since 2011. I'd say the 2016-18 era and 2019-now era are the same. The biggest change in hip-hop in the past decade, in my opinion, was the end of the heavy synth-based backtracks that dominated the late '00s and early '10s. I think the problem is that you're counting Snap from 2006 as an era of trap. IMO Crunk (which originated in the 90s and peaked in 2003) "evolved" into Snap around 2005/2006, which then "evolved" into Trap around 2008/2009, but it was mostly mixtapes back then and didn't gain much until Waka Flocka Flame in 2010.

Actually I'm not. I'm referring to songs like this, which could have been popular at any time between late 2006 and early 2011. Waka Flocka was late to the party and didn't bring anything new to the table that other rappers weren't already doing in the late '00s. Snap was popular in the mid '00s but didn't last much past 2006. It was replaced by the style I'm referencing.
