So far, we passed two school years of the decade. This is my analysis so far:
2019-2020: Still late 10s with small early 20s influence. At this point, the core 2010s are officially dead. Tiktok becomes a household name and building stars such as Charli D'Amelio, Addison Rae, and Bryce Hall. E-Boy/E-Girl becomes the first established Gen Z subculture. New rappers came to the spotlight such as DaBaby and Roddy Ricch. The unfortunate passing of Juice WRLD. Singers like Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, The Weeknd, and Doja Cat ushered music in a second wave of retro pop. 2020 didn't start off so well with the Australia fires, WW3 almost started, and Kobe Bryant's death. Covid interrupted our lives in spring and forced to quarantine. Due to Covid, services like Zoom quickly rose to the mainstream. Minecraft went through a second wave of popularity in the summer of 2019 resulting in a new Minecraft star named Dream. The killing of George Floyd by the police resulting in the revival of the BLM movement.
2020-2021: Most likely a transition from the late 10s to early 20s. Covid is going strong and variants were popping up. Biden becomes president and a deadly insurrection that happened in DC. PS5 and Xbox Series X kickstarted the 9th generation gaming. Fashion started to form it's 2020s identity with baggier pants and shirt, baby-sized shirts, and bucket hats, kinda like late 90s/Y2K. Vaccines were released in Dec. 2020. Many people were obsessed with this aesthetic called Cottagecore. WAP shocked the world with the music video and lyrics. Roblox enjoys another wave of popularity among core/late Gen Z'ers. People being crazy for the Among Us game and memes. Trap music went through a transition with bouncy and string-y productions. Pop punk-inspired music slowly rises with Mood, My Ex's Best Friend, and Good 4 U. Chill R&B also creeps in with songs such as Peaches and Kiss Me More. Olivia Rodrigo becomes the next Gen-Z superstar.

Early 2020s to mid 2020s transition begins, but leans early 2020s. Scene revival blows up. Crunk and Timbaland revivals emerge. 9th generation gaming becomes standard. Extreme sports revival begins. Post COVID-19 world is in full effect. Bedroom pop and trap declines. Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat began to decline. Bedroom pop and trap are dead. FaceBook is out of business. Artificial Intelligence, driverless cars and virtual reality takes off. Peak core 2020s and scene revival. 2025-2026: Peak core and mid 2020s with lingering early 2020s influences and rising late 2020s influences. Late 2020s influences surpass early 2020s influences in 2026. Timbaland and Crunk revivals peak. Scene revival loses steam and goth gains steam in 2026. 2026-2027: Last core 2020s school year with dying early 2020s influences. Mid 2020s to late 2020s transition begins, but leans mid 2020s. Timbaland and crunk revivals loses steam. Electropop New Jack Swing revival starts to emerge. Virtual Reality becomes apart of sports, shopping and gaming. TikTok declines. Electropop New Jack Swing 2027-2028: Solid late 2020s with early 2020s influences dead, dying mid 2020s influences, lingering core 2020s influences and rising early 2030s influences. Electropop New Jack Swing is in full swing. AI makes mark on music. TikTok is dead. 2028-2029: Peak late 2020s with dying mid 2020s and core 2020s influences. Early 2030s influences overshadow core 2020s influences in 2029. Mid 2020s influences are dead by 2029. 2029-2030: Late 2020s to early 2030s transition, but leans late 2020s. Core 2020s influences are dead. Driverless cars overshadow regular cars. According to my analysis: Late 2010s 2017-2018 2018-2019 Fake Early 2020s (or Transitional Late 2010s) 2019-2020 2020-2021 Early 2020s 2021-2022 2022-2023 2023-2024 Mid 2020s 2024-2025 2025-2026 2026-2027 Late 2020s 2027-2028 2028-2029 2029-2030 Well actually I think the fake early 20s ended once the pandemic hit. That gave us the real early 20s in March. And we are now in the early 20s. In 2022, we will see the transition into the mid '20s and leave the Covid era. We will fully be in mid 2020s culture by January 1, 2023. The mid '20s will begin early this decade.

Well actually I think the fake early 20s ended once the pandemic hit. That gave us the real early 20s in March. And we are now in the early 20s. In 2022, we will see the transition into the mid '20s and leave the Covid era. We will fully be in mid 2020s culture by January 1, 2023. The mid '20s will begin early this decade. You have a good point. The fake early 2020s era from spring 2019-winter 2019/2020 ended once the pandemic hit. The COVID 19 era kicked off in spring 2020. Both are transitional periods. Right now we are already leaving the COVID era behind with cases dropping and the vaccines making a dent. I feel like we are in a transition period which is about 75% complete. Not to mention the PS5 dropped in late 2020 and Biden became president in 2021 which is all apart of the transition to early 2020s. I predict by fall 2021, we will enter the real early 2020s. 2022 will be identical to fall 2021 or a progression of those changes. IMO 2022 is too early for core 2020s and mid 2020s culture to begin. I see 2023 being different with the transition to mid 2020s culture and the core 2020s beginning that year. Who knows. By then we might be living in a post-COVID-19 world with COVID-19 being history. I see late 2010s influences disappearing by 2023 at the earliest. The earliest I can see mid 2020s culture beginning is fall 2023. IE the Summer 2001 effect

IE the Summer 2001 effect Preach! Summer 2021 is reminiscent of summer 2001 in that COVID-19 is evaporating. I guess that’s where the long in the tooth feeling comes in. Late 2010s culture is stale and past peak. Early 2020s culture is fresh and yet to peak. 2021 will be a split year. I can’t believe we’re approaching July soon. 2021 is flying faster than 2020. The second half of 2021 will scream more early 2020s and be more in our face than the first half of 2021. By fall 2021, the vibe will be more clear. Fall 2021 will scream a different era from 2020, even winter 2020/2021. Fall 2021 will feel new. I can sense a culture reboot happening. 2022 will peak the early 2020s. The 2020s trajectory will likely follow the 2000s trajectory. 2021 has that split year vibe like 2001, to those who are asking, we are in the transition right now, I am comparing it to Summer 2001 in a sense that over the course of that Summer of the y2k era and for that matter the previous era we were in evaporated before the new school year started. The only difference is now we are self aware inside the summer that a change is happening due to message boards like this. The change is right now, its happening now

The only difference is now we are self aware inside the summer that a change is happening due to message boards like this. The change is right now, its happening now I could not have said it any better. I am kind of excited witnessing this change, especially with the vaccines making progress and places slowly reopening. I guess the world needs angsty rock music after being cooped up inside their homes listening to LoFi, trap, vapor-wave and bedroom pop. They are waiting to get out of their houses, party and have a blast. Do you think the 2020-2021 school year through summer 2021 is on par with the long in the tooth feeling of the 2000-2001 school year through summer 2001? I have noticed uncanny similarities between these school years, new gaming consoles, new presidents and music changing. COVID-19 and being stuck inside the house is reminiscent of you going to this bad girls school during the 2000-2001 school year and not being able to return until the 2001-2002 school year. 2020-2021 school year dragged by slowly like the 2000-2001 school year. I know I have said this before, but the second half of 2021 > first half of 2021 and 4th quarter of 2021 > 1st through 3rd quarters of 2021. I can picture 2021 ending off on a bang with December being the best month of the year. At best, life will be semi-normal by October 2021 and fully normal by 2023. The 2021-2022 school year will be miles above and blow the 2020-2021 school year out of the water. I do think it has that same vibe, different circumstances obviously. Maybe 2020-2021 school year felt slower because of covid rules still in effect at the time. Very hard one to pin point. I can say out of any summer, Summer 2001 was the slowest and most long in the tooth, this summer starts in about 10 min, officially lol June 20th so we will know by the end of this Summer which one was slower. It is not just me tho, there have been books about Enron that mention the slow long in the tooth vibe that was Summer 2001. This is an interesting read as well www.thebalance.com/2001-recession-causes-lengths-stats-4147962

Trump's last months in office was watching paint dry. The first 20 days of 2021 was watching a turtle move. When Biden got inaugurated, things picked up slightly quicker. I will admit that on January 20, 2021, Biden becoming president felt like a strange, surreal and relieving dream. I remember you mentioned when George W. Bush first became president in 2001, it felt weird. I cannot wait for a summer 2021 retrospective around late September to early October when fall 2021 kicks off or like a summer 2001 versus summer 2021 comparison. That article is an interesting read. It lines up with your perspectives of the early 2000s. It seemed like by December 2001, life was semi-normal. December 2001 is probably the best month of 2001. My sister was in my mom's stomach during that time. Around 2003, the early 2000s recession seemed like an after thought. By 2004, life is back to basics normal and people finally move on from September 11, 2001. I guess around 2023, COVID-19 and the early 2020s recession will be an after thought. By 2024, life will be back to basics normal and post-COVID-19 world will be in full effect.

Yeah it was also weird because almost my entire life Clinton was president, he was part of the "90s" pop culture, so it was weird seeing Bush on TV for those first few months but we got used to it. Yeah by December 2001 things started going faster, I wanna say November 2001 around the time Xbox & Gamecube came out things were back to semi normal. The mall in November was packed. I was there when Xbox and Gamecube came out at the mall, there was a line from KB Toys going outside in the parking lot. Not to mention Lord of the Rings & Harry Potter coming out, there was this "pop culture optimism" in the air, from movies to new music (mind u Teen pop was pretty much no more at this point) By 2003 (with the exception of the IRAQ war) as I have stated countless times ( and the article backs me up) life was staring to become worry free for everyone

So far, we passed two school years of the decade. This is my analysis so far: 2019-2020: Still late 10s with small early 20s influence. This, is on point! 😊
