Olivia leans more towards pop while Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton are more singer songwriter but I would say it is as close as you are going to get. Oh and by the way OP around this time 2001 is when Michelle blew up as well.
Excerpt from TRL summer 2001

Repost (bump):
Michelle Branch and Olivia Rodrigo both achieved musical success as 17 and 18 year olds, respectively. Michelle Branch got popular in 2001 and Olivia Rodrigo gets popular in 2021. Both make rock or pop-punk music. Do you think these two artists are similar or comparable to each other?

Michelle Branch was significantly more upbeat in her style than Olivia Rodrigo. I'd also consider Olivia Rodrigo to be bedroom pop despite the fact that some of her songs have pop-punk influences. It's still predominantly bedroom pop in the vein of Billie Eilish.

Why is this chick even popular? She's not original. Michelle Branch at least sounded new during that time.

I honestly don't get most of the similarities except the fact that they're both female rock singers. But in terms of complete artistry, they're worlds apart. Michelle Branch is more country-sounding, light pop-rock and acoustic while Olivia Rodrigo has a depressing and cynical bedroom pop and pop-punk aesthetic within the likes of Lorde and Billie Eilish.

Why is this chick even popular? She's not original. She wants to be Hayley Williams so badly.

Isn't Michelle Branch like a precursor to Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson?

Isn't Michelle Branch like a precursor to Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson? kind of, around the time Michelle Branch blew up so did Vanessa Carlton, people often end up confusing the 2 due to their same styles. Avril and Kelly def needed a Michelle Branch to kind of open the pathway to a more mature radio friendly pop punk rock type of sound at the time. (as far as Pop rock singer song types) this song kind of has that vibe

Michelle Branch also was never as big as Olivia Rodrigo. To compare to the electropop era, if Billie Eilish is Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo is Ke$ha. Michelle Branch was always more of a second tier artist, at least in my opinion.

OP it's like comparing 2 different things, Branch and Olivia are 2 different type of artists. You can't even compare her to Avril because they are 2 different artists.
