Depends on your region/country, the following things happening in Late 08 - up to Spring 2009- Economy crashes in Fall 08 - Lady Gaga becomes a house hold name in the span of 6 months- Red One becomes the producer for everyone - Android comes out - Marvel Cinematic Universe is established- Toonami kicked off the air - Obama becomes president- Circuit City and KB Toys both end - Rise in Electropop - Katy Perry becomes a house hold name - Facebook inches closer to beating Myspace ( close to being neck and neck) - Hipster rises fast in late 08- Scene declines slowly in Spring 2009 - Grindr launches - Twitter blows up Q4 2008 and becomes officially mainstream by Spring 2009- Glee airs its first episode - MTV cancels TRL and replaces it with It's on with Alexa Chung - Hulu launchesThese are the big ones for me. To me, the transition from the 2000s to the 2010s was mostly a result of the rise of streaming and smartphones. In pop culture, Obama being president and the decline of emo/scene culture and rise of hipsters is another big thing. yeah it's something rarely talked about online except this forum but Hipsters were growing exponentially Q4 2008, you could tell in a few years it was going to take over. Remember when MJ died ? Twitter was all over the news that month with peoples reactions, I remember they kept talking about Twitter real time updates on CNN. And for those here acting like Gaga was a nothing burger in 08, Just LOL ! her rise started in North America around July/August 2008 and from there it got higher and higher. Every week more and more people were talking about her, from MTV to Fuse to even Vh1 and of course the internet, she was a buzz word in 2008.

I mean 2008 was still mostly emo/scene in terms of youth culture. It really wasn't until 2010 when it really began to decline (linked with the decline of MySpace), and hipsters began to take over.

Scene declined in 2009 rapidly, summer 2009 is the threshold, Emo died in 2007 ( scene had already replaced it when it died)

In a way, the 2007-2008 school year was kind of an emergence of scene with some remnants of emo I guess. I feel like the Metro City song give off more scene vibes. Quintessential late 2000s
