Since a lot of people don’t believe that the mid 2010s was it’s own era or has its own identity, I decided to compile a list of things that I think define the mid 2010s and actually make it its own era.
- Obama’s second term - VINE!!! (the most mid 2010s thing ever) - Dances like the Nea Nea, Whip, Juju on that beat, hit the quan, hit the folks, dabbing, etc. - early, pre-SoundCloud era trap (think Trap Queen by Fetty Wap, Panda by Desiigner, or Lifestyle by Young Thug) - Dancehall and Tropical House music (Work by Rihanna, One Dance by drake, What do you mean by Justin Bieber, etc) - Artists like Fifth Harmony, Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers, Fetty Wap, etc. - The 2016 election cycle (lasted from mid-2015 to late 2016) - Man buns - Harambe - Post-Avengers but Pre-Infinity War MCU movies - SJW culture
And these songs below sound like they could only exist in the mid 2010s

I totally agree on the mid-2010s having its own vibe separate from the early 2010s and late 2010s. Just Vine alone is proof, as it literally existed almost entirely through the chronological mid-2010s, but there's also others too: -Montage parodies/MLG videos -Twenty One Pilots -Lets players being trendy -GoAnimate -Five Nights At Freddys (THE defining game of the mid-2010s without question, was everywhere at one point) -Undertale -Flappy Bird -Goat Simulator -Cringe culture -Filthy Frank -Windows 8 -The aesthetic of iPhones post-iPhone 5S but pre-iPhone X -Frozen being EVERYWHERE -Minions ALSO being everywhere -The Wii U (the other 8th gen consoles continued into the late 2010s but the Wii U is EXCLUSIVELY a mid 2010s thing) -.io games (seriously, have we suddenly all forgotten this, this was SUCH a craze back in the mid-2010s at my school, like agario and slitherio) -Hoverboards (that then burst on fire LMAO) -Dystopian fiction films (Hunger Games, Divergent, etc.)

Maybe one day the late 10s will be seen as cheesy too, no one thought the early 10s were cheesy when they were happening. I distinctly remember thinking culture was so modern and futuristic back then.

There were so many movies like Interstellar, Big Hero 6, and Days of Future Past that had that kinda vibe. Not to mention new tech like smart speakers and smartwatches.

People say years like 2014 and 2015 are dark, but cheesy pop hits charted during that time. Many see 2013-2016 as a neo teen pop age. Honestly, even the late 10s had cheesy music Shape of you (perhaps the cheesiest song of the 2010s), Despacito, What Lovers Do, perfect, look what you made me do, closer... Edit: and don't forget "freaky friday" by chris "women beater" brown

I do not know why people want to revive that era. I think it is too soon because they are barely a decade ago. I also thought during the early 2010s that the culture is futuristic with electropop music.

Going back to 2014 (the peak of 2010s futurism), that year saw the release of both Hunger Games Mockingjay and Divergent
