2011 screams peak early 2010s. 2011 is the best year of the early 2010s. I think 2011 is better than 2010 and 2012. 2011 is the first year that feels unquestionably 2010s, more 2010s than 2000s, but I still felt a late 2000s vibe which disappeared in 2013 or 2014. I do not think 2011 is obsolete. 2011 is dated because it is before politics got toxic. The Iraq War still raged on. The world of 2021 still has connections to 2011. Smartphones and touch screen technology just started to become common, although analog technology like feature phones and DVD’s were prominent. MacBooks with DVD drives were still being produced. I would not feel a culture shock if I were to wake up in 2011. I was 12 to 13 years old in middle school, 7th and 8th grades, a time I remember clearly. Maybe that has a lot to do with my perception of 2011. I still cannot believe 2011 is a decade ago. It does not feel like it. 2011 feels like 5-6 years ago. I find the fact that I became a teenager a decade ago, surreal. I got my first cellphone for my 13th birthday which was a blue Verizon slider. Borders went out of business that August which marked the end of an era.

As far as I'm concerned the current woke/cancel culture wave is a direct response to the anti-sjw/alt-right wave of 2015-2018, Anita Didn't create it lmfao

It was an era where things like LGBT were becoming more accepted, while at the same time not being too politically correct. You could still joke about a lot of things without the fear of being canceled. I feel like there was a change around 2012 when the Trayvon Martin incident happen. That was the event that inspired the Black Lives Matter movement in 2013. 2012 was also when I noticed an increase in shootings.

2011 is when 2010s culture still felt tolerable and chill. 2011 is more politically incorrect than 2013 to now. Now that I think of it, woke politics really took off around 2012-2014 before reaching a fever pitch around 2015-2017.

In 2011, artists and movie directors had more freedom to do what they wanted. Now in 2021, movie directors and artists have to please a specific group without being "offensive."

Years are not inherently good or bad. It's what you make out of them that makes them good or bad, or your judgements regarding specific events that makes them good or bad.
Basing the quality of a year off of entertainment is also a sad reflection of how you perceive the world, especially given that we live in a world where you're freely allowed to be more selective with your hobbies and how you spend your freetime. There's more to life besides entertainment. Entertainment is not inherently bad, as nothing is inherently bad, it's what you make out of it that seals the deal.
If you want years to start being good again, you need to get out there and make them good, get out there and make a change to make life better for yourself and better for the ones you love.

The fact politics weren’t toxic in 2011 means the year is dated in a GOOD way I’d say that in 2011, democrats and republicans still had a common ground. It was pre-legalization of same-sex marriage. People underestimate how monumental that SCOTUS decision was for conservatives and how they view America. 2011 is a year I've soured on over the years, but for many years during the 2010s after I chose to move back to my hometown and was miserable, I considered it my last "good" year. However, that's because of my personal life and not the pop culture. I would love to relive the culture of 2011 if I could do it on my own terms. I really miss the era of Lady Gaga and electropop. I miss being in my twenties. I miss the role technology played during that era (roughly 2007 through around 2013) when computers were still dominant and boomers had yet to take over social media.

Along with the shootings in Colorado and in Connecticut. 2012 does feel like the blueprint year for all of the things going on today.

Tbh, I don't know any SJW stuff in 2012. I feel like a lot of that stuff was contained and only existed in certain spaces. The "Tumblr SJW" didn't spread out through the internet until 2014-15, which caused a spark in the alt-right movement.

This, i used to think 2016 was a shit year for me but I've reevaluated it

IMO 2012 is arguably the first year to have many ties to today. Obviously it’s a very different era culturally, but in terms of politics it has the earliest influences of the political era we’re in today. I wouldn’t say it got truly bad until 2014 though. 2012 was also when Instagram became popular, so it feels more recent than 2010.

I think the political era we're in was already starting to brew with the Tea Party and Birther movement of 2010. Occupy Wall Street could also be the starting point as well.

That was a pretty big deal. Politics aside, 2012 was also notable for not being a huge year for Lady Gaga after she had dominated 2009, 2010, and 2011. It felt different for that reason alone.
