I say late 2004 to mid 2009, the cultural mid to late 2000s, after Myspace kicked off, broadband outsold dial up and before YouTube removed their 5 star ratings. I am sure more factors exist, but this is all I can come up. I think Myspace started to fall off in 2009 and Twitter started catching on. Smartphones are not popular in the late 2000s, even if the first iPhone came out on June 29, 2007. How do you define the early social media era? Myspace, AOL aim ( even tho it was big in the late 90s) Yahoo! Launch for music videos and then Youtube for music videos and everything else around Summer 2006. forums were at it's peak at this time
